The jersey from Julius 'Dr. J' Erving's first-ever NBA road game -- rocked right after the ABA and NBA merged in 1976 -- is about to hit the auction block ... and it's expected to sell for over $500K!

The threads are from the Sixers vs. Buffalo Braves game at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium in New York ... played on October 23, 1976. The Sixers lost 108-105.

Erving, in his second-ever NBA game, played 15 minutes, scoring 13 points on 4 of 9 shooting.

The No. 6 jersey -- photo matched by Sports Investors Authentication -- was also worn during several other games later in the season, including a Christmas Day game in '76.

Now, the blue, red and white jersey from the games will soon hit the auction block at Grey Flannel Auctions.

Radio host Tony Massarotti is apologizing for muttering a racial slur while live on air this week ... telling his fans he had no idea the term was a derogatory one.

Massarotti unleashed the 80-second mea culpa during Thursday's episode of "Felger & Mazz" ... insisting he had no malice in his heart when he said "z*****head" during his show on Wednesday.

Massarotti was adamant he was simply trying to poke fun at his Gen Z-aged colleague ... and nothing further.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. tried to use his son's name to get out of his DWI stop earlier this year ... with police video -- obtained by TMZ Sports -- showing the elder Mahomes tell cops multiple times that an arrest would likely cost the Chiefs star and his team Super Bowl LVIII.

It all happened back on Feb. 3 -- after authorities in Tyler, Texas pulled over Mahomes Sr. following allegations he was driving a white four-door Genesis that didn't have updated registration.

Initially, Mahomes Sr. -- wearing a hat with his son's branding on it as well as a "Kansas City Vs. Everybody" sweatshirt -- was cooperative and cordial with cops. The police video shows he handed over all of the information and paperwork that officers wanted -- and he even passed along an open can of Coors Light that he had in his center console cupholder.

The alarming moment occurred during the fourth quarter of the Nets-Sixers game at the Wells Fargo Center ... when McCain, attempting to rebound his own miss, was contacted, causing him to fall backward and slam his head on the court.

The thud could be heard on TV ... and there was immediate concern for the 20-year-old hooper, who lay on the floor, visibly injured.

The latest foot-in-mouth moment happened on Wednesday's episode of "Felger & Mazz" -- a Boston afternoon drive show -- when Massarotti was talking with his cohost Michael Felger about his qualms with Gen Z.

The former Boston Globe sportswriter stated he believed the Z in Gen Z "stands for z*****head" -- a term commonly used to offend people of Asian descent.
