Jamie Lynn Spears is going from the small screen to the big diamond -- at least for one day -- 'cause the actress is gearing up to compete in a charity softball game on Saturday.

Britney's little sister is slated to field ground balls and take hacks at the plate at the University of Louisiana Monroe ... in an effort to help the school's softball team raise funds.

It'll all go down at 6:30 PM -- and general admission tickets start at $40 ... but for an extra $20, university officials say you can get an autograph from her following the game.

It ain't Christian McCaffrey, Breece Hall or Bijan Robinson ... no, the best tailback in the NFL is Alvin Kamara!!

... at least, that's according to the Saints star's teammate, Demario Davis, who tells TMZ Sports he's sure no one else in the league is as good a runner as Kamara.

The man accused of firing a gun and killing two people at a Detroit Lions tailgate last Sunday will NOT be charged with a crime ... as officials say he was acting in self-defense.

The shooting took place in Eastern Market -- just blocks away from Ford Field -- as people were partying after the Lions had just lost a heartbreaker to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cops said a preliminary investigation revealed that 25-year-old Jalen Welch had gotten into a dispute with a 40-year-old man at the venue ... when the man opened fire and killed him. A bystander, police added, was also struck by the gunfire ... and later died at a nearby hospital from his injuries.

Shaquille O'Neal still adamantly denies he's the big man in the photo burning up social media, using a Shaggy hit to get the word out ... this after the woman shared evidence she claims proves she was with the Big Fella!

52-year-old Shaq shared a video on Instagram ... where the Hall of Famer, sitting alongside Peter Gunz, lip-synced to Shaggy's 2000 hit, "It Wasn't Me".

The video is a response to a woman named Maria Ozuna Teachey ... who earlier in the week shared a now-deleted Rated-R photo with a giant dude who many assumed was O'Neal (the person is so tall their head is out of frame).

Former NFL fullback Patrick Pass -- who spent seven seasons as Tom Brady's teammate in New England -- was arrested on Wednesday ... following allegations he shoved an elderly man during a gym dispute last month.

According to NBC 10 WJAR, police said the incident took place at a Planet Fitness in North Providence, R.I. back on Aug. 28.

Cops claim the former football player -- who's now 46 years old -- pushed an 82-year-old man to the ground during a spat over exercise equipment. Authorities allege the man sustained back injuries as a result of the altercation.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid says the team did its due diligence prior to bringing back Kareem Hunt ... telling reporters everything K.C. officials learned about the running back made them comfortable with the signing.

Reid spoke about the new roster addition at Wednesday's press conference ... where he was immediately asked about re-signing the former Cleveland Brown in wake of starter Isiah Pacheco's injury.

Of course, Hunt ended up in Orange and Brown after TMZ Sports published video of him kicking a woman during a dispute in a hotel hallway back in 2018. At the time, the Chiefs said Hunt lied about the incident ... resulting in his release.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will honor Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau this season in wake of their tragic deaths last month ... promising several tributes for the brothers in 2024 -- including jersey patches, helmet stickers and more.

The NHL team announced Wednesday the first salute will happen at CBJ's preseason opener against the Buffalo Sabres on Sept. 23, when players will sport blue and gray decals on their buckets. The stickers will have the "Gaudreau" name on it -- along with their jersey numbers and two doves.

Columbus also revealed there will be a moment of silence for the duo at the team's first home preseason game against the St. Louis Blues on September 25.

Florida surfer Jorge Alvarado -- who was placed on life support after suffering a serious head injury during a wipeout at Daytona Beach last week -- has died, his friends announced Wednesday. He was only 49 years old.

Justin Gore provided the tragic update on Alvarado's GoFundMe page ... saying the memories they made together will live on forever.

"Jorge, rest in paradise brother," Gore said. "Your spirit was as vibrant as the ocean waves you loved to ride. You brought joy and adventure to everyone around you."
