Donald Sutherland -- a legend in Hollywood -- has died ... this according to his talent agency and his family.
The actor -- who was best known for appearing in classics like "The Dirty Dozen," "M*A*S*H," "Animal House," "Hunger Games" and many, many other films -- passed away Thursday in Miami, Florida after a long illness ... something CAA announced.

No cause of death was shared, and the exact details of his passing weren't disclosed either.

Jonathan Majors is set to take on the lead in a new supernatural revenge thriller -- marking his official return to the screen after his assault trial, in which he was convicted.
The actor will play the role of a CIA interrogator -- whose sanity takes a perilous dive as he grapples with malevolent forces threatening the woman he loves. The movie doesn't have a major studio attached to produce or distribute ... for now, it's just an indie flick.
Despite his legal woes, JM's got some serious backup on this project -- it'll be directed by Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve ... something sources connected to Jon have confirmed to TMZ.

Denzel Washington is reminiscing about his days working with Whitney Houston -- saying he saw past her tough exterior and felt a deep need to cushion her from life's harsh blows.
At the American Black Film Festival, host Chaz Ebert echoed Denzel's observation about the late star's vulnerability on the set of the 1996 comedy, "The Preacher's Wife." Denzel, surprised his need to protect Whitney was obvious for all to see, asked, "You really got that?"
As Chaz confirmed it was, Denzel nodded knowingly, "Well, of course" -- adding, "I always felt like I wanted to protect her. You know? She wanted to be so tough, but she really wasn't. That's all. Okay."

If you haven't seen the movie, Cumming plays Nightcrawler -- a bright blue mutant with the ability to teleport in the flick. Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Patrick Stewart and James Marsden star in the movie and, by all appearances, the film's a pretty standard comic book film.

A wild, deadly bus hijacking in Atlanta is stirring up some wild flashbacks for one of the actors from "Speed."
As we reported, a madman in Atlanta hijacked a city bus, which he used to lead police on an unbelievable high-speed chase ... and, during which he allegedly shot and killed a passenger.
Hawthorne James, who played bus driver Sam Silver in the 1994 blockbuster, tells TMZ ... he was shocked watching footage of the Atlanta bus bouncing off cars.
It all gave him some serious déjà vu, but, of course, he acknowledges the major difference is Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and himself always knew they were safe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" is projected to make $56 million domestically when all's said and done -- higher than the previous estimate of $53 million.
BTW ... international box office totals have eclipsed $48.6 million -- cracking the $100 million total globally.

As you can see, Zooey was on the mic and belting out songs -- including "Don't Stop Believin'," "The Weight" and even "We Are the World." For each, she sang her heart out.

Early reviews for "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" are trickling out with the action flick hitting theaters Thursday night ... and word is Will's character, Mike Lowry, gets slapped multiple times by Martin Lawrence's character, Marcus Burnett.
The slap scene is supposedly near the film's climax, and it sounds like there are a few layers to the joke. Detective Burnett keeps calling his partner, "bad boy" while slapping him in the face.

Tom Bower -- the actor famous for his roles in "The Waltons" and "Die Hard 2" -- has died.
The longtime veteran character actor passed away from unknown causes at his L.A. home last week ... this according to his brother Robert Bower, who talked to THR. The exact circumstances of his death have yet to be revealed.
Before hitting the big time, Bower studied acting at John Cassavetes Shadows Workshop ... and then spent 15 years as a private investigator before diving into acting in 1972 with "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel," alongside Al Pacino.
