The recent rise of "mystery drones" seen in the sky over the Northeastern U.S. has escalated into a potential national security issue ... prompting a major U.S. Air Force base to close its airspace due to drone sightings in the area late Friday night into Saturday.

Airspace over Ohio's Wright-Patterson Air Force Base was off-limits for about four hours, according to an Air Force spokesperson, prompted by reported sightings. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.

In new audio obtained by TMZ ... the controller at the base is heard telling an airplane to divert its course -- "use extreme caution for heavy UAS movement on the base, security forces is handling the situation." The controller advises the base was keeping lights low so potential drones in the area would be visible. UAS refers to "unmanned aerial systems."

Donald Trump is weighing in on the growing controversy over mystery drones flying across America ... and the president-elect says he wants to shoot the damn things out of the sky if the government doesn't start giving straight answers!

DT posted a message on his Truth Social platform Friday ... and in true Trump fashion he didn't mince words -- "Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge. I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!"

Some are worried the mysterious drones are up to no good, and they may be carrying hazardous materials, or could possibly take down airliners. They've reportedly been seen in several states, including New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Connecticut ... and possibly elsewhere.

Local politicians in New Jersey are irate with the federal government's response to their recent drone problem, with multiple lawmakers telling us they want the feds to act, and they're worried their constituents will take matters into their own hands -- which could be disastrous.

We spoke with NJ Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia and Middletown Township Mayor Tony Perry about the hundreds of sightings of drones over multiple New Jersey counties in the past month ... and, in a nutshell, they say they need the federal government to act ... NOW!

Assemblywoman Fantasia tells us there has been basically no information about the unnerving situation provided by the federal government or state leaders ... and, there's even confusion on which agency is actually running the show.

Congressman Tim Burchett wants the U.S. government to step up with military options against drones ... saying he wants to see a few of the crafts shot out of the sky.

A photographer caught up with the representative from Tennessee Thursday... and, Burchett told him America's government is being tested by outside forces -- and, the government is failing the test.

Burchett tell us the government is too comfortable throwing their hands up and saying they've got no idea what the drones are or who is piloting them ... seemingly referencing White House national security communications adviser John Kirby admitting they haven't been able to corroborate any sightings of alleged drones over New Jersey.

The United States government isn't just shooting down alien involvement in unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) anymore, a huge change from its decades-long position ... so says an expert who writes on UFOs.

We spoke with Marik Von Rennenkampff -- a journalist who writes about UFOs for publications like The Hill and MSN -- on Friday ... and, he tells us we're seeing a change in the language the government is using to describe possible alien tech.

While the government once ridiculed and derided theories about aliens creating UAPs, Rennenkampff says a new report from the Pentagon is more open to the seemingly impossible theories than the institution used to be.

The Pentagon is coming clean about a number of unidentifiable flying phenomena in a new report ... including one "near miss" encounter between a commercial plane and a UFO on the East Coast.

The eyebrow-raising case, which was among 757 instances explored in the report, took place in the past year off the coast of New York state. Per the annual report, an airline crew flagged a "near miss with a ‘cylindrical object’ while over the Atlantic Ocean" to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Though it's unclear when exactly the instance took place, or which airline was involved, the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office is investigating the matter ... as there may have been a "flight safety issue" during the unexplained encounter.

Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAPs, are a threat to national security and, if those who built them are our enemies, then their mere existence constitutes one of the largest intelligence failures ever ... so says a former Defense Department official who testified before Congress.

Luis Elizondo -- an author and former DoD official -- appeared alongside several other UAP experts in front of Congress Wednesday to discuss the threat UAPs pose to America.

Check out the clip ... Nancy Mace -- a Republican congresswoman from South Carolina -- asks Elizondo if UAPs are made by private businesses or extraterrestrials, since he says governments do not control this tech.

UFOs are seemingly all around us these days ... and the latest sighting of one of these unidentified saucers occurred in Nevada on Friday.

Here's what happened ... a woman named Katrina and her buddies were hanging out in the city of Henderson around 10 PM when they suddenly saw a bright round light shimmering high up in the sky.
