Paula Patton can still put on a happy face -- just days after announcing her separation from husband Robin Thicke, Paula arrived in L.A. with a big smile ... and no wedding ring.

The couple announced they were splitting this week -- and as we reported, the marriage meltdown stemmed from Robin's scandalous behavior with other women ... Miley Cyrus in particular.

Robin has pulled out all the stops to save his marriage -- canceling several tour dates -- but Paula's not budging.

Kanye West is best when Kanye is East ... because not only did he resist attacking an in-his-face, camera-wielding fan ... he summoned the guy back for the photo op he so aggressively wanted.

Here's what happened ... Kanye was in NYC, leaving a building for his van, when a random guy yanked out his cell phone and went for a cheek-to-cheek selfie.

Kanye is calm, but his hired muscle swats the fan's arm and thwarts the pic.

A few minutes later ... the fan is summoned back to the van but there are strings attached. Kanye promises to take a pic with the guy if the paparazzi turn their cameras off ... and they oblige.

Simon Cowell knows more about caring for infants than you think, and says ... medically, there's NO issue with his little beach vaca with his baby.

Simon and Lauren Silverman were out for dinner last night in Miami -- sans baby Eric -- when he fired back at critics (like us) who said it probably wasn't a great idea to take their 10-day-old baby out for a day on the beach.

Simon says Eric is "very healthy" ... and added the whole trip was doc approved.

Paris ain't called the City of Love for nothing -- Rihanna and Drake are both in town ... and they can't stay away from each other.

Drake is in Paris for a concert -- he performed last night -- but he and Rihanna have been hanging out since the weekend ... grabbing a fancy dinner at Paris's famous L'Avenue restaurant Sunday.

Rihanna re-connected with Drake at his concert the next day ... slipping in the rear entrance.

After last night's concert, the on-again off-again couple hit up a nightclub ... and from there, we're told they both crashed at the Hyatt hotel, where Drizzy has a room.

Guess that means they're on again.

Nicole Murphy and the chicks from "Hollywood Exes" found a way to make the Hawaiian coastline even more luscious ... with a very hot yoga session on the water.

The exes -- Nicole, Andrea Kelly, Sheree Fletcher, Mayte Garcia and new cast member Shanna Moakler -- traded yoga pants for bikinis ... balancing on all four in the water on paddleboards.

You can see the pleasure in Mel Gibson's face as he left a restaurant in Malibu Friday. He didn't want to talk about Oksana Grigorieva and the fact that she has gone belly up ... filing for bankruptcy. But you can see a certain peacefulness and calm that hasn't been exactly front and center.

As we previously reported ... Oksana could have been set for life if she didn't reject Mel's $15 million settlement back in the day, when those tapes were just between them. But she got greedy, and ended up with $750K and lots of lawyers bills. And half of that money was taken away because she blabbed about Mel ... violating their confidentiality agreement.

Fact is ... Oksana is still riding Mel's gravy train. He's paying $20K a month for child support, and that will likely last until Lucia turns 18.

But Mel clearly had a good day in the Bu.

Simon Cowell flashed his new daddy skills -- in front of all the paparazzi -- and FAILED MISERABLY at the dreaded car seat test.

Simon and Lauren Silverman took their newborn Eric to the doctor Friday for a checkup. Lauren said the baby's doing great -- and then it was Simon's time to shine ... or not.

Simon Cowell's new son has been cleared for takeoff -- TMZ has learned, the 5-day-old child just got his very first passport ... to become one of the most well-traveled jetsetting babies in the world.

Simon and Lauren just left an NYC courthouse, where they filed papers to get their son Eric his passport.

We're told BOTH parents had to be present in order to get the official government paperwork -- and since Simon's only in town for a few days, the couple decided to check this off their to-do list right away.

Makes sense -- Simon spends tons of time in the UK ... so baby Eric will obviously be making plenty of trips across the pond.

Now we know why paramedics were standing by when Chris Kattan landed in L.A. hours before his DUI arrest ... because we obtained video clearly showing he was utterly out of it on the jet.

Chris was on an Air Canada flight Sunday when the flight crew radioed ahead that Kattan was stumbling around, complaining he had run out of his prescription.

The video is disturbing ... because Chris seems as out of it as he was when the CHP arrested him on the 101 Freeway. The fact that he drove a car on the surface streets and on the freeway before crashing into a parked vehicle is scary.

Cops say Chris admitted he had been taking Rx drugs after he was busted.

There seems to be a conflict in the Sheriff's Dept. A Dept. rep told us earlier the officers were on duty, but we just got a call from the Capt. at the West Hollywood station who says the deputies were all off duty and hired by a production company.

Kim Kardashian and Ciara got as much law enforcement attention as Rodney King on Wednesday ... as they shopped for baby clothes.

Kim and Ciara were leaving Bel Bambini ... a high-end baby store on Robertson in L.A. -- as 5 (FIVE) L.A. County Sheriff's deputies flanked them as they made their way to their cars.

So the question -- What the hell? We called the Sheriff's department and they said they had no answer.

It's the first glimmer of pre-meltdown Lindsay Lohan we've seen in a long time -- she took the stage last night at some financier's NYC birthday to perform a classic Stevie Nicks song ... and she hit it out of the park.

Lindsay was at the Four Seasons -- where NY Republican Party Finance Committee chairman Matthew Mellon was celebrating his 50th birthday -- and she sang Stevie's "Edge of Seventeen" for the crowd.

Lindsay's had a love affair with "Edge of Seventeen" for years -- she's performed it live before and even featured a cover of the song on her 2005 album "A Little More Personal" ... a year after starring in "Mean Girls."

Chris Kattan expects that you can drive your car on the freeway, crash into a parked vehicle, come close to killing someone, get arrested for driving under the influence -- but it's reprehensible for reporters to call him out on it.

Chris just tweeted, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all."

Kattan explains his arrest this way: "I just got back from a 15 hour flight after touring out of the country. I was exhausted. The police were so kind. I'm lucky nobody was hurt."

Our law enforcement sources say ... Kattan confessed to cops he was on Rx meds while driving erratically on the 101 Freeway, before striking a Dept. of Transportation vehicle that was inside a coned area.

Kattan also says he "passed all the tests" -- an odd comment, because he flunked the field sobriety test in spectacular fashion.
