Amazon Fixes App After Design Furor ... Did Nazi Mustache Mistake
Amazon's done some much-needed trimming to its new app icon after users noticed it looked a lot like a very infamous mustache -- Hitler's.
The company just made a rather simple but effective fix to the new design, which was updated in January from the longtime blue shopping cart logo to a brown cardboard box-colored icon.
The new icon featured its well-known smiling arrow with a piece of blue tape -- resembling one of its packages -- but problem was ... people thought the serrated edge of the tape looked like a Hitler-esque mustache.
Obviously, Amazon had no choice but to correct this major design flaw ... so the blue tape's is flat now, with a corner folded back. Looks more like an innocuous nose now.
Hopefully, innocuous ... said the Amazon design team.

Angelina Jolie Sells Her Churchill Original Painting For $11.5 Million!!!

Angelina Jolie has parted ways with a very unique painting by one Sir Winston Churchill ... fetching her a whopping $11.5 million at auction.
Christie's in London sold the Moroccan landscape painting Monday for a cool $11,590,715. The actress, who along with Brad Pitt bought it in 2011, had a rare piece of art ... it's believed to be the only wartime painting by the legendary Prime Minister of Great Britain.
The story goes ... Churchill painted the "Tower of the Koutoubia Mosque" after the January 1943 Casablanca Conference, where he and President Franklin D. Roosevelt planned how to defeat Nazi Germany. Churchill gave FDR the painting as a memento.
The painting itself's a beaut ... depicting a 12th-century mosque in Marrakech at sunset. The Atlas Mountains serve as the picturesque backdrop. The painting was later sold by Roosevelt's son after FDR died in 1945. The painting then went through several owners before Brad and Angelina got their hands on it.
It's unclear who bought the painting. BTW ... the $11.5 million price is a new record for a Churchill original ... smashing the previous record of around $2.5 million.

'I-5 Strangler' Roger Kibbe Found Dead in Prison ... Lying Next to Cellmate
Roger Reece Kibbe -- one of America's most notorious serial killers -- was found dead in the prison cell he shared with another inmate ... and authorities say it could be homicide.
Kibbe, infamously known as the 'I-5 Strangler,' was found lying unresponsive in his California state prison cell around 12:40 AM Sunday ... and law enforcement says his cellmate, Jason Budrow, was standing next to the body.
Kibbe's body was transported to the prison's health care facility, but life-saving measures were unsuccessful and by 1:23 AM he was pronounced dead ... according to authorities, who say they are launching a homicide investigation.
81-year-old Kibbe was serving multiple life sentences at Mule Creek State Prison after pleading guilty to raping and murdering 7 people, with some of the killings dating as far back as the 1970s.
The cellmate is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder.

George Floyd Murder Trial Courthouse Barricaded ... Barbed Wire, Fencing, Etc.
The courthouse where Derek Chauvin will be tried for murdering George Floyd looks like the same fortress that's around The U.S. Capitol right now ... heavily reinforced to block out the general public.
Construction crews have been hard at work over the past week fortifying downtown Minneapolis with de facto forcefields, including areas where protests and unrest are expected as Chauvin's murder trial gets underway in the coming weeks.
The blockade's going up around the Hennepin County Courthouse, the Minneapolis City Hall building and the Hennepin County Jail -- and it includes concrete barriers, non-scalable fencing and barbed wire down below.
The precautions aren't too surprising considering the City Council just carved out a piece of their budget to hire 6 social media influencers to help spread their message during the trial as well.
City Council members say it's only meant to help spread information more readily and to as many people as possible, but many see it as a PR tactic to help control the narrative.
As for the new exterior look -- we know that's not the only thing that'll be different in this case. The inside of the courthouse got a COVID-safety facelift that includes lots of plexiglass installments.
1ST LOOK: #GeorgeFloyd courtroom built on the 18th floor of the Henn Co Govt Center specifically for this case. Plexiglass dividers, spaced out seating, hand sanitizer dispensers. Travis Scott Cactus Jack Does it Again ... Huge Crowd at WeHo Pop-Up!!!
Travis Scott's whipped up another frenzy over the launch of one of his new projects ... this time it went down in front of a newsstand.
The rapper surprised fans Tuesday by announcing a pop-up shop in WeHo to promote his new "i-D Magazine." As you can see ... it drew a HUGE crowd clamoring to see him, and maybe get an autograph.
Eventually, Travis had to be escorted from his excited fans by security to his getaway ride ... but not before hyping them up one more time.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
The shop was apparently selling limited edition Cactus Jack merch to go with the 'Utopia Issue' magazine collab with Spike Jonze and Robert Rodriguez.
As you may recall ... Travis was promoting another one of his Cactus Jack projects -- a combo meal at McDonald's -- back in September when he drew another massive crowd that nearly mobbed him before he was whisked away.
He was ultimately fined a couple hundred bucks for that incident -- which was clearly not COVID-safe -- and it looks like he was willing to risk getting into more trouble to pull off this WeHo stunt.

COVID-19 U.S. Deaths Surpass 500,000
-
Breaking News
- 9.7K shares
COVID-19 has claimed an astonishing number of American lives -- surpassing half a million Sunday -- more than we lost on the battlefield in three combined wars.
Compare the numbers .... there were 291,000 American deaths in WWII. There were 47,434 American battle deaths during the Vietnam War. There were 33,739 American battle deaths in the Korean War.
Compare those numbers to COVID ... as of this post 502,000 Americans have died, and the numbers keep going up. Despite the vaccines, some doctors and scientists believe there could still be a new, devastating wave of deaths because of highly-transmissible variants.
The good news, of course -- the vaccines are going into arms at a rapid pace .... lately around 1.5 million per day. Still, we are nowhere close to vaccinating enough people to achieve herd immunity. Around 70% of Americans -- possibly even more -- must be vaccinated to achieve that goal.
As you know ... there's a lot of skepticism over the vaccine for various reasons. Some people think it was rushed, and others -- especially African-Americans who endured shocking abuse in the disgraceful Tuskegee experiment -- just don't trust it or the government when it comes to vaccines.
There has been a slew of stories about the vaccines, suggesting they may not be effective as variants arise ... and lots of people resistant to the vaccines seem to be saying, what's the point?
In any case, we've lost more than half a million Americans to COVID.
RIP

'SNL' Michael Che Called Out Over Jewish Joke Critics Blast Him for Anti-Semitism
12:55 PM PT -- The Conference of Presidents -- a coalition that speaks on behalf of several Jewish orgs, including the Anti-Defamation League -- put out a strong statement against Che's joke.
Jewish Leaders Disturbed by Antisemitic Humor on @nbc’s Saturday Night Live pic.twitter.com/HbBmTpiThJ
— Conf Of Presidents (@Conf_of_Pres) February 21, 2021 @Conf_of_Pres
They say Israel's vaccination rollout is being distributed equitably, regardless of gender, race, or religion ... and their efforts have included Palestinians living in the area too. COP goes on to say that what Che did was piling on to anti-Semitic tropes, which they find deeply troubling.
"Saturday Night Live's" Michael Che is getting dragged for what some are calling an anti-Semitic joke.
Che was at the anchor desk for "Weekend Update" Saturday night, when he quipped that half the folks in Israel have already gotten the COVID vaccine, adding, "I'm going to guess it's the Jewish half."
True enough ... Israel's faced criticism for not yet inoculating around 100,000 Palestinians who work in Israel. That said, Che did not say the Israeli half was vaccinated ... he said the Jewish half. By saying that, he made it about religion, not the government.
Fact is ... Israel is inoculating Jews, Arabs and Christians. They were slow on the uptake with Palestinians, but they're correcting that.
Twitter went crazy after Che dropped the joke, calling him out, but he has yet to address it.

NASA Mars Rover Sticks Landing ... Time To Explore!!!

NASA's Mars rover landed safely on the Red Planet ... and its 293-million-mile journey is just beginning.
The Perseverance rover touched down at 12:56 PM PT Thursday, and quickly sent back the mission's first image from Mars' surface. As you can see, there's lots of dirt, dust and rocks.
NASA's mission control cheered and fist-bumped from California's Jet Propulsion Laboratory when the rover survived the landing ... a fun payoff after tons of hard work. Normally there would be bear hugs, but the celebration was spaced out and masked up.
Perseverance blasted off from Florida's Cape Canaveral way back in July, and now it's set to start exploring Mars' Jezero Crater in search of signs of ancient life. The crater is the site of an ancient lakebed, which scientists say is loaded with the remains of long-dead microbes.
The SUV-sized spacecraft even brought a small helicopter along for the first time ever, so more space history is on the way. When the chopper takes flight later on in the mission, it will be the first such flight on another planet.
Gotta love science!!!

Kodak Black visited Marjory Stoneman Douglas High on the third anniversary of the deadly mass shooting there ... and he came bearing gifts of education.
The rapper was in Parkland, FL Sunday for a memorial to honor the 17 victims claimed during the 2018 shooting rampage -- with upwards of 100 guests in attendance, including the Mayor and other town officials. Kodak was there for Meadow Pollack -- one of the students killed.
Kodak's attorney, Bradford Cohen, tells us KB was Meadow's favorite recording artist -- something he caught wind of and wanted to commemorate her with a scholarship in her name.
We're told Kodak established a $100k scholarship fund in Meadow's memory at the Nova Southeastern University Law School, for students wanting to study justice reform. That's where her brother, Hunter, is attending. Of course, Hunter was also at the ceremony, front and center.
Check out the video of Kodak discussing his intentions, and the warm reception he receives afterward ... not to mention a hug from Hunter. They later walked up to a table together to light a candle for the Parkland victims -- it's pretty moving to see up-close.
Kodak seems to have a whole new attitude these days -- a charitable and uplifting one -- since being released from prison early ... after President Trump commuted his sentence.

Janet Jackson 1986 Album Soars on Charts After JT Apology
Janet Jackson got more than an apology from Justin Timberlake ... she got a revival.
Janet's 1986 album, "Control," has skyrocketed on the charts since Justin issued his mea culpa Friday over her 2004 Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. As you know, she was skewered by critics, while Justin remained silent and unscathed.
Well, "Control" hit #1 on the Apple Top 40 U.S. Pop Album Chart a week ago -- before Justin's apology. It was the 35th anniversary of the album. But after the apology it's going really strong ... now the 8th most downloaded album on Apple iTunes.
Janet took to social media and said, “I was at home just the other day by myself, and I began to cry. I was crying because I was so thankful for all that God has blessed me with, all that he has given me, and I’m so thankful for him being in my life.”
She went on ... “I’m so thankful for all of you being in my life. You’re so special to me, and I want to thank all of you for making ‘Control’ number one once again. After 35 years, never in a million years would I think that this would happen. I really appreciate you, and I love you so, so much. Thank you.”
Justin's apology was driven by a radio interview that surfaced in the new Britney Spears documentary, where he bragged about taking her virginity. He apologized to Britney, but also to Janet for the Super Bowl incident.
Justin said, “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”

Skiers 3 Found Dead After Massive Avalanche Buried In 20 Feet Of Snow

Tragic news -- 3 backcountry skiers in Colorado were found dead following a huge avalanche this week ... after being buried in more than 20 feet of tumbling ice and snow.
A group of 7 skiers was traveling between Silverton and Ophir when they accidentally triggered an avalanche near a well-known area called "The Nose" on Feb. 1, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
The report says the incident happened at an elevation of approximately 11,500 feet ... and 4 members were caught up in the avalanche.
The CAIC states the group was able to find and dig out one of the missing members ... who suffered only minor injuries.
Authorities conducted search and rescue operations to find the remaining 3 skiers … but efforts were suspended after 2 days due to "considerable" avalanche danger for the safety of the search and rescue team.
Unfortunately, the 3 other skiers were found dead, according to San Juan County officials.
Eagle County and the town of Eagle released a joint statement Wednesday ... saying, "the families of Seth Bossung, Andy Jessen and Adam Palmer are allowing us to share their names, so we can all openly acknowledge their deaths and grieve together."
"The families are surrounded by loved ones, and we are asking everyone to respect their wishes as to when and how they wish to communicate with others."
A helicopter is now required to retrieve the 3 bodies due to the damage caused by the avalanche and rugged terrain ... and they will be taken to the San Juan County Coroner's office for positive identification.
Officials say the Ophir Pass has been suspended and people should continue to avoid the area.
"Avalanche danger in the backcountry is always unpredictable regardless of your avalanche knowledge and skills."

Jeff Bezos Passes CEO Baton ... Will Remain Chief of Board

Jeff Bezos is letting go of the Amazon reins, day-to-day at least, and while he's not vanishing altogether from the office, it's clear his focus elsewhere.
Bezos' departure as CEO was announced Tuesday during an earnings call, and it was revealed AWS CEO Andy Jassy would take over as the main man of the e-comm behemoth sometime in the third quarter of 2021.
As for why he's stepping down ... Bezos wrote a letter to employees, saying running Amazon at large is exhausting and all-encompassing -- and he's got other projects he wants to go all-in on. He'll still have a hand on the wheel though, as executive chair of Amazon's board going forward.
WOW, Jeff Bezos is stepping down as CEO of Amazon — will become executive chair. pic.twitter.com/cEAt9oeLr1

JB added in his letter, "As Exec Chair I will stay engaged in important Amazon initiatives but also have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions. I’ve never had more energy, and this isn’t about retiring. I’m super passionate about the impact I think these organizations can have."
In his letter to Amazon employees, Jeff Bezos says he will Pivot to Philanthropy.

I will "have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions."
Full letter here. pic.twitter.com/xtMcNken9T
For reference, the Day 1 Fund is JB's homelessness project; the Earth Fund is his climate change initiative and Blue Origin is his aerospace company. So yeah, Dude's still got a lot on his plate.
As for how this will affect the company's projected growth, the numbers seem to show stakeholders have faith. Amazon shares were trading higher in after-hours Tuesday. That shows how solid Amazon is -- Bezos has been in the captain's chair since '94.
Unclear if Jeff's stock options with the company will be affected -- which could change his wealthiest man on the planet status. He and Elon Musk have been swapping the 1 and 2 spots all year.
Something tells us he'll be just fine.

Elon Musk's handing over the keys to a SpaceX rocket to Jared Isaacman -- a billionaire himself, and pilot who's preparing to lead the first-ever, all-civilian spaceflight.
Jared joined us on "TMZ Live" Tuesday and told us all about the historic mission set to blast off this October, and what he's looking forward to most once he and 3 other civilians get into orbit.
Elon announced Monday Jared will be Commander for the trip, and he's already started some hands-on training for the SpaceX Dragon capsule. Sounds like he'll be ready to override the automatic pilot, if necessary, but don't worry ... he's an accomplished pilot with a flying speed record to his name.
It's pretty cool ... Jared's bringing 3 other civilians to space for a multi-day trip around the Earth, and he tells us how 2 lucky people can snag spots on the capsule by donating to a great cause.
For now, Isaacman Rocketman's trying to stay grounded and take the mission preparations day by day -- but you can tell he's champing at the bit to get some serious pilot bragging rights.
Also obvious ... Elon must really trust him.

Famed P.I. Jack Palladino Not Expected to Survive after Robbery ... 2 Suspects Arrested, With His Help
1:21 PM PT -- SFPD says it now has two suspects in custody that they believe are connected to the attack that nearly killed Jack Palladino -- and the big twist ... the victim himself may have had a hand in tracking them down.
City officials announced Sunday 23-year-old Tyjone Flournoy and 24-year-old Lawrence Thomas were arrested over the attack. They've been booked for attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon -- formal charges have yet to be filed.
As for tracking these guys down ... Palladino's family tells the SF Chronicle Jack himself snapped photos before he was brutalized and it helped crack the case. Basically, his family says he rushed outside Friday evening to get pics of people whom he believed were making trouble in the neighborhood -- firing off a few snaps before he was spotted.
His family says that's when his assailants "gunned him down" with their car, and tried stealing his camera ... but Jack refused to let go, at which point he was dragged and hit his head. He's still unconscious for now, but his family gave him the good news anyway ... saying the police told them his photos were useful in catching the alleged criminals.
His wife, Sandra Sutherland, says she said this to an unresponsive Jack ... "Guess what Jack, they got the bastards, and it was all your doing." Sadly, he's not expected to live.
Famous P.I. Jack Palladino -- who worked on a slew of cases from Bill Clinton to Kurt Cobain -- is on life support and not expected to survive after getting gravely injured during a robbery.
The 70-year-old was outside his home in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco Thursday, testing a new camera he got when a car drove by, a man jumped out and attempted to steal it.
The robber yanked the camera away from Palladino, causing him to fall ... hitting his head on the pavement and rendering him unconscious with grave injuries.
Palladino underwent surgery to stop the massive bleeding and was placed on life support. He is not expected to survive.
He has been one of the premier P.I.'s since the '80s and continued to work on cases until he suffered his injury.
Palladino was hired by the Clinton campaign in 1992 to investigate the extra-marital affair allegations against the then-Presidential candidate. He was also hired to determine the cause of the 1994 death of Kurt Cobain. And, he was involved in investigating the circumstances surrounding the Jonestown mass suicides.
The P.I. had many other cases ... he repped the 14-year-old boy in his civil, molestation lawsuit against Michael Jackson. The child eventually got a $20 million settlement. He was also hired by John DeLorean, who was charged and acquitted of cocaine trafficking.
A suspect has been arrested in the robbery.
