NASA Capsule Back on 🌎 w/ Asteroid Stuff!!! ... Years-Long Expedition
Humans are one step closer to figuring out the mysteries of the universe -- and it's all thanks to a NASA capsule that just got back with some space soil ... from a long way away!
The capsule was shot down from a larger mother ship spacecraft called OSIRIS-REx, which got launched into the sky a whole 7 years ago ... with the idea being that it'd travel billions of miles to reach a huge asteroid named Bennu, which while far ... it's still within reach for us.
NASA wanted to study debris from this asteroid, which is said to be very, very old. Scientists say the samples collected are going to help us understand more about our origins, not to mention other discoveries about our solar system and maybe even the galaxy at large.
It took a while, but the capsule finally touched down Sunday ... landing in a Utah desert, where NASA deployed helicopters as part of a recovery team. Seems they wanted to be extra careful with this thing -- even when they got back to the lab, it was hazmat suit galore.
Your package has been delivered.
— NASA (@NASA) September 24, 2023 @NASA
The #OSIRISREx sample return capsule containing rock and dust collected in space from asteroid Bennu has arrived at temporary clean room in Utah. The 4.5-billion-year-old sample will soon head to @NASA_Johnson for curation and analysis. pic.twitter.com/Ke0PcDAKt0
As for what exactly the samples consist of ... it's mostly just rocks and dust, but considering it comes from an asteroid that likely traveled from a far distance, precaution is necessary.
While this is the first such asteroid mission for NASA, Japan's space agency has already beat us to it ... a couple different times, actually. Still, it's a major accomplishment for the U.S. -- and just another example of people venturing out into space more and more now.
With the samples back here on Earth, they'll now go to Texas for further study. NASA says it plans to reveal its findings sometime in October.

USC's Lincoln Riley Lifts Controversial Ban On Reporter ... After 'Long Conversation'
USC head coach Lincoln Riley has lifted the controversial ban he placed on journalist Luca Evans this week ... after the two had a "long conversation" about the Trojans' beef with the beat writer.
Riley and his team initially suspended the Orange County Register reporter after they said he violated their media policies when he documented the pre-press-conference mannerisms of a Trojans player in a recent article.
The school said Evans shouldn't have written about the student-athlete's actions ... explaining they happened outside of the Trojans' allotted media availability period. Riley then suspended Evans for two weeks in response.
But, following days of backlash, Riley agreed to talk with Evans on Wednesday ... and on Thursday, he decided to remove the punishment.
"We had a very candid and productive conversation," Riley said. "We agreed that we both could have handled the situation differently. I appreciate Luca recognizing the policies we have in place to protect our student-athletes and acknowledging to adhere to those in the future."
"We welcome Luca back to practice and look forward to his continuing coverage of the Trojans."
Added Evans, "I respect and understand the program's outlined policies regarding media access, and any missteps came through the intent of doing my job and pursuing relationship-building and storytelling."
"I will continue the same reporting an writing with fairness, accuracy and depth, and we reached an agreement to lift the restriction on access."
Despite the drama with the journalist, Riley's got his Trojans rolling this year nonetheless ... they're 3-0, have scored 56-or-more points in all three contests. and are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation.

Crazy Carjacking Chicago Gunmen Steal Car At Gunpoint ... Caught On Video
Chicago has been plagued by carjacking crimes in recent years ... and now video has emerged showing just how harrowing the experience can be for a victim.
Surveillance footage, obtained by the Daily Mail, captures the moment a man sitting in a parked car is targeted by gun-wielding assailants who arrive in two other vehicles and block him in at an intersection on September 2.
The man tries to drive away, but he's trapped. One suspect darts out of his car, pointing his gun at the driver. Gunmen from the second vehicle jump out and converge on the motorist as well.
You can't hear what's being said, but it's a good guess the suspects are ordering the man to get the f*** out of the car so they can steal it.
And eventually, that's what happens. The bad guys drive away in their cars, as well as the one they just jacked from the driver, leaving him face down in the middle of the street.
Luckily, the man wasn't hit by a passing automobile. He got up and ran away but did not report the terrifying ordeal to Chicago PD.
Carjackings have been a constant problem in the Windy City, skyrocketing at the start of the pandemic. CPD created a task force to address the issue, and the number of carjackings have gone down recently. Yet, with scenes like this one, it shows there's a lot more work to be done.

¡impactante!
Mexico Beach 2 Killed by Lightning Strike ... Terrifying Clip
2 people are reportedly dead after being hit by a bolt of lightning on a beach in Mexico ... and the horrifying incident was caught on video.
The ordeal went down in Michoacán Monday, along the country's Pacific coast -- as the weather got super nasty. You can see someone packing up an umbrella, just before the strike.
After the first person is hit, you can see the lightning appear to travel along the sand to the other person ... both of them collapse, causing nearby folks to scream in horror.
According to Spanish outlet MARCA, the victims were a man and a woman -- one was a tourist, and the other sold hammocks. The outlet says the woman was killed instantly at the scene, and the man later died at the hospital while receiving treatment.
Odds for a person to get hit by lightning are rare, at about 1 in 15,300.
An average of 2,000 people are struck worldwide every year, and while 10% of those who get hit are killed, the other 90% could be left with long-term effects like memory loss and seizures.

Crazy Connecticut Carjacking Luxury Car Owner Takes On Carjackers ... Beatdown Caught On Video
A Connecticut man tried to stop two carjackers from stealing his Aston Martin sports car ... but his heroics fell short and ended with him getting a video-recorded beatdown.
Check out this Ring camera footage, which captured the intense battle between the masked thieves and the courageous man in his garage at his Westport home on Sunday afternoon.
As you can see, the man is sitting behind the wheel of his luxury vehicle when the suspects brazenly walk in and confront him.
One perp throws open the driver's side door and orders him out, but he refuses and the two get into a tussle.
The other perp hurries over to help his buddy, but the man is able to briefly fend them off.
Turning more aggressive, the assailants yank the man out of his seat and toss him to the ground before jumping into the car.
As they're about to pull away, the man stands up and starts fighting with the driver while screaming out for someone to call the police.
That only makes the thieves angrier, and they begin pummeling the man as the video cuts off.
A rep for Westport PD said the suspects sped away in the car and are still at large.
The victim suffered minor injuries.

Cyclist Hit-And-Run Las Vegas Police Pleading For Info Surrounding Fatal Video
Las Vegas cops are pushing hard for information surrounding the fatal hit-and-run that killed a cyclist ... pleading for anyone with tips about the horrific incident to come forward.
The city's police department asked for the public's help at the end of August -- a couple of weeks after retired police chief Andreas Probst was struck and killed while riding his bicycle.
The LVMPD said officers found and arrested the 17-year-old driver, and charged him related to the hit-and-run ... but things changed once they discovered the video -- adding open murder to his charges after determining the hit was intentional.
Cops haven't said if the passenger, who filmed the brutal crash, has been arrested ... but Las Vegas PD is asking for anyone with info to come forward and offer up what they know.
The department also hasn't released information about the 17-year-old driver due to his age.
As we reported, the 2 teens were laughing in the disturbing video while plotting to hit Probst on a Las Vegas street last month ... crashing into him and sending him flying up their windshield and onto the concrete behind them.
Probst was rushed to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

F-35 Fighter Jet Missing, Possibly Still Flying ... Pilot Ejects After 'Mishap'
The U.S. military needs help tracking down one of its fighter jets after it disappeared following a "mishap" this weekend ... crazy thing is, it might still be flying around, unmanned.
The F-35 -- an elite aircraft -- has been labeled missing by officials over at South Carolina's Joint Base Charleston ... which sent a PSA out to the public on Sunday, saying they couldn't find this particular stealth jet after the pilot ejected in some kind of training exercise.
They tweeted, "We’re working with @MCASBeaufortSC to locate an F-35 that was involved in a mishap this afternoon. The pilot ejected safely. If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center."
Now, as for what exactly happened that led to the pilot needing to eject ... they're not saying. What we do know is the F-35 was in autopilot mode when the pilot bailed.
Another weird thing ... the Air Force is NOT using the word "crash" to describe where this jet could possibly be. You'd think that'd be what's going on here -- but they're using very careful language right now, refusing to say whether they think it's in the air or not.
That's led many to speculate the jet continues to soar, zombie-style. The AF says they're looking Around Lake Moultrie/Lake Marion based on the jet's last-known position -- and they're coordinating with the FAA to pinpoint it.
If you see it, call 843-963-3600. #ghostridethewhip

Ella vuelve a presionar: "¿Para ganar?"

Welker: “Do you worry about going to jail?”
Trump: “I don’t even think about it.” pic.twitter.com/5VijJErhgK
Adelante y adelante.
Kristen Welker Gets Trump to Admit He Needed Votes to Win ... In 'Meet the Press' Debut
There's a new host over at 'Meet the Press' -- and on day one of the job, she got Donald Trump to admit he needed votes to win the 2020 election ... which is quite something.
Kristen Welker is now at the helm after Chuck Todd stepped down, and her first show Sunday featured a lengthy interview she did with the former President ... and it contains an interesting soundbite where she asks him about his refusal to accept the election results.

Check out this exchange ... Welker points out that Trump has repeatedly said he only needed a few thousands votes in each state to win -- not to mention calling some Secretaries of State in an attempt to pressure them to "find" votes -- and he acknowledges that's true.
Then Welker asks the obvious ... "When you say you needed one-tenth of a point, you needed one-tenth of a point to win?" Trump concedes he needed only a smattering of votes.
She again presses ... "To win?" DT responds, "Yeah." Welker then goes to the next obvious fact here ... "But Mr. President, you’re saying you needed more votes to win the election, are you acknowledging you didn’t win?" That sends Trump into an "Excuse me" frenzy.
When she finally asks him if he's admitting to losing ... he says no, insisting it was rigged.

Trump: “I don’t even think about it.” pic.twitter.com/5VijJErhgK
There are other interesting takeaways from the sit-down ... including Welker asking Trump if he fears going to prison. He tells her no, because apparently, he doesn't even think about it.
Now, we should point out ... Welker/NBC is catching a bit of flak over their decision to interview Trump at all and to give him a "platform." That's silly, though -- the guy is headed toward becoming the Republican nominee, and he continues to be newsworthy. 🤷🏽♂️
Onward and upward.
