2020 has brought us a deadly pandemic, a devastating hurricane, tornados, shocking examples of police brutality ... so really, how surprising is a big earthquake in North Carolina?

A 5.1 quake rocked Sparta, NC Sunday, just after 8 AM. The epicenter is near the Virginia border and was felt in South Carolina and Georgia.

It's the biggest earthquake to hit the area in more than 100 years.

Check out the video ... the beauty salon surveillance video shows the force of the quake as items all around sway back and forth.

The Mayor of Sparta said the quake was so loud it sounded like a train roaring down the track.

Fortunately, no injuries and only minor damage, but the shaking was real.

A 5.1 is a big quake, but typically significant damage usually occurs when a quake is in the 6's or higher. Of course, depending on the way buildings were constructed ... a 5.1 could do serious damage ... though not the case here.

Here's what happens when doing it for the 'Gram goes wrong -- a tourist in Italy damaged a 200-year-old sculpture while posing for a pic.

The tourist, who hails from Austria, snapped off several toes from a 19th-century plaster model by Italian sculptor Antonio Canova while sitting on the display and trying to mimic the pose for a photo op.

The incident happened last week at the Gypsotheca Antonio Canova museum in northern Italy, and video shows the tourist standing up to discover the damage before getting the hell outta Dodge.

The museum claims the tourist bounced without alerting anyone to the damage, and a museum official noticed the broken toes a few minutes after it happened and sounded the alarm.

Italian police reportedly tracked down the tourist, thanks in part to the pandemic. Museum visitors must sign in and leave personal info for potential contact tracing, and that's how police found him.

The tourist's wife reportedly burst into tears when contacted by cops and admitted her husband was the culprit, and the man has since confessed and apologized for the gaffe.

An Italian court is reportedly weighing whether to press charges, and the president of the Antonio Canova Foundation wants the tourist punished.

The good news ... the artwork's marble version is housed in a gallery in Rome and has, so far, remained undamaged by photo-hungry tourists.

If you've never seen human billiards, you're about to -- a woman knocked off her moped bounced once, and then went straight down a gutter. Worst luck EVER!!!

The strange, but true accident went down in Brazil ... where some jerk (more on him later) driving a car turned right into a moped, sending the female rider flying. She hit the pavement hard, and started rolling.

As if getting hit wasn't bad enough ... her momentum sent her careening directly into a huge storm drain on the roadside!!! Honestly, it's a one in a million chance.

Now, the good news a bunch of Good Samaritans ran to her aid -- one of 'em even jumped down into the sewer -- and they were able to pull her out safely. Amazingly, it looks like she only had some bad scratches on her legs.

The bad news? Watch the video ... while the crowd gathered to rescue the woman, the guy who hit her snuck back to his car and dipped!!!

Dutch cyclist Fabio Jakobsen nearly lost his life in a horrific crash in a race in Poland this week ... and he's now in a medically-induced coma recovering from serious injuries.

Jakobsen was jockeying for first place at the end of the Tour of Poland on Wednesday ... when he appeared to be cut off by fellow cyclist Dylan Groenewegen.

What happened next was terrifying ... Jakobsen flipped over some signage lining the raceway and then crashed face-first into a solid barrier.

Jakobsen suffered major injuries in the wreck ... his cycling team announced he had to undergo facial surgery and then be put into a coma.

But, thankfully, team officials say Jakobsen avoided serious spine/neck ailments.

"Fabio had facial surgery during the night," the cycling team said in a statement Thursday. "His situation is stable at the moment and later today the doctors will try to wake Fabio up."

Groenewegen was heavily criticized for his role in the crash ... he was DQ'ed from the race despite finishing first -- and was blasted by Jakobsen's team's GM, who called Groenewegen's end-of-race maneuver "criminal."

For his part, Groenewegen apologized on Twitter, writing, "I hate what happened yesterday. I can't find the words to describe how sorry I am for Fabio and others who have been dropped or hit."

"At the moment, the health of Fabio is the most important thing. I think about him constantly."

Meanwhile, U.S. cycling legend Lance Armstrong sent his best wishes to Jakobsen, saying, "Thoughts and prayers go out to Fabio Jakobsen. Hang in there buddy."

President Trump's not the only one threatening the U.S. Post Office these days -- meet this maniac, who screamed, yelled and busted out some martial arts ... until a Good Samaritan got involved.

Check out this wild video of the guy losing it on a fellow customer -- a younger woman -- inside a Northern California Post Office. Both of them were at the counter when an argument erupted, and screamed his face off at her.

She stood her ground, which seemed to piss him off even more -- and that's when he flew into a half-assed karate stance of some sort. That drew laughs from some bystanders, but another stepped in with some words of wisdom.

A man who jumped into the fray told the Chuck Norris wannabe to scram and reminded him he's violating federal law by threatening people in a U.S. Postal Office. That seemed to finally get through to him, and he went outside.

Never a dull moment for the USPS, which Trump has been bashing nonstop -- claiming it's gonna ruin the election by screwing up the handling of mail-in ballots.

One of the most vile, disgusting displays we've seen in a long time went down in Nokomis, Florida, when a white supremacist spewing his love for Trump and hatred for others violently attacked a woman.

The self-proclaimed Aryan and white supremacist, Nicholas Arnold Schock, went on a rampage inside a restaurant and began screaming, "I'm a white supremacist, Aryan Nation will rule the world. People covered in tattoos are gonna be my closest relatives, I promise you."

Someone at the restaurant asked him to pipe down because kids were present, to which he responded ... "I don't give a f***, call Donald Trump, please."

And then, he hurled some disgusting obscenities, and as he tried to make his way inside a female staffer blocked him, and then, with all his might, unloaded a punch to her face.

The crowd clearly had enough, tackling the guy and taking him to the ground.

Schock was arrested and charged with battery and disturbing the peace. He's still in custody.

Florida man strikes again -- only this time, he's in action hero mode, which looks way more terrifying in real life than it does on the big screen.

This insanity went down Saturday in the Sunshine State somewhere along I-95 -- where a big rig was cruising down the highway at a pretty fast clip with a HUMAN BEING stuck on its hood outside ... clinging on for dear life.

The driver didn't seem super agro ... trying to shake the guy off by jerking the steering wheel back and forth, and weaving in and out of traffic lanes. The two people who captured this pulled up alongside them -- you can hear the guy clinging to the truck scream for help.

It looks like something out of a movie -- maybe "Mission: Impossible" or something -- but it's all too real ... and it's freaky AF. What's even crazier ... the driver didn't stop at first, he just kept on going and tried finding other ways to shake the dude off ... like hard braking.

Eventually, it looks like the cops pulled the truck over and got things under control. We don't know if anyone was cited or arrested. It's also unclear what triggered this.

Florida, man ... they stay wildin' out there.

THIS is some real-life superhero stuff -- a good Samaritan pulling a driver to safety just as his flame-engulfed vehicle starts to explode ... and it's all on video.

The dramatic rescue went down in St. Louis, where the life-saving hero, Antonio Morgan, encountered the burning vehicle Tuesday on Interstate-70 and noticed the driver, Keilen Robinson, slumped over with his car on fire.

Antonio pulled over and sprung into action, telling his teenage son they had to save the driver.

With flames from the engine licking at his face, Antonio struggled to pull Keilen to safety before realizing he was still buckled in the driver's seat. After one explosion, Antonio had to step back, but quickly returned to unhook the seat belt and drag Keilen away from the burning wreck.

A second hero was Johnny, on the spot with a fire extinguisher to prevent any more explosions. He got a well-deserved bear hug from Antonio when all was said and done.

A dramatic rescue scene played out in Kansas when an SUV driver slammed into a city bus, but kept his foot on the gas and wouldn't let up.

It all went down in Wichita after a 41-year-old guy crashed his black Escalade crashed into the back of the commuter bus. According to reports ... the SUV driver suffered a medical emergency, triggering the crash.

That explains why the driver also kept his foot on the gas pedal. Check out the video ... the tires were screeching and smoke was billowing everywhere during the Tuesday incident. Good Samaritans frantically jumped into action, with one man literally punching the SUV's passenger's side window in an effort to get in and take control of the Escalade.

The SUV actually pushed the bus forward for a while before coming to a stop!

The same man who punched the window eventually forced his way inside with a hammer and a fire extinguisher before he finally got the driver's foot off the pedal and stopped the vehicle.

A former Buffalo State football player is fighting for his life after being shot during an altercation at a liquor store Monday ... and cops have released the shocking footage in hopes of catching the suspect.

NYPD officials say a fight broke out between Malachi Capers -- a former D-end at Buff. State -- and another man after the two bumped into each other inside 136 Deli & Grill in Queens.

You can see in surveillance footage of the incident ... Capers brushed up against the man's shoulder -- and then the two exchanged words.

Eventually, fists started flying ... and that's when the former football player tackled the guy to the ground outside the store.

When the man was able to free himself from Capers' grasp ... you can see in the video, he pulled out a firearm and shot the 20-year-old in the stomach.

Capers is now reportedly in the hospital battling critical injuries.

Now, the NYPD says it's looking for the gunman -- who officials ID'ed as Jeffrey Thurston -- and is asking for any help in finding his location.

Buffalo State head coach Christian Ozolins, meanwhile, released a statement to multiple media outlets regarding the shooting ... saying, "Malachi was a well-liked member of our football family during his freshman year in 2018 and has remained a friend to many in our program as he has continued his education at Buffalo State after leaving the team due to on-going injury issues."

"We have him in our thoughts as we wish for a speedy and full recovery."

A despicable man spewed a racist epithet at someone he felt was blocking his car ... then turned his vitriol toward the guy recording his disgusting behavior.

Check out this video from Brooklyn ... the racist gets out of his car and screams at a person to get out of the middle of the street, then unloads with the n-word.

He then realizes a guy walking by is recording the incident, and he seems surprised and pissed off, and then launches into a homophobic tirade followed by a full-on physical assault. The racist steals the man's phone and slams it on the ground.

The racist dude insists he doesn't care if the video gets posted online -- he even says he'll win fans because of it.

Sadly, that may be the case.

SpaceX's latest mission's off to a good start, thanks to the same rocket booster that launched NASA astronauts on their journey to the International Space Station in May ... and here's the incredible footage.

The Falcon 9 launched the ANASIS-II Mission rocket on Monday around 5:30 PM ET from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, this time to set a communications satellite into orbit.

Videographer Ryan Chylinski utilized a slo-mo camera and zoom lens to capture the stunning moment ... and the telescope-tracking vid shows the rocket in great detail.

As we reported ... Falcon 9 launched 2 American astronauts -- Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken -- into orbit on May 30, then returned to the ground on a remote droneship.

A woman climbed into an alligator pit with her young son, who wandered freely near dozens of gators while she tried to fetch her wallet ... and a bunch of kids watched in horror.

The wild scene played out at Safari North Wildlife Park in Brainerd, Minn. with stunned onlookers watching the mother and son risk life and limb. As you can see, the woman's wallet was floating Saturday in the middle of a small pond, chock full of gators ... and her daring son was dangerously gung ho to get it back.

The kid came up empty, but momma stormed in to make the rescue -- and about the only smart move she made was figuring out a way to distract the sharp-toothed animals long enough to grab her floating wallet.

Fortunately, mother and son survived, so we can all have a good laugh now about someone else's kid yelling "s*** happens" to sum up the adventure.

The zoo's not laughing though.

Sources close to the wildlife park tell us staffers did not know about the incident until the video started going viral, and park honchos are very disturbed. We're told the zoo wants to press charges against the woman for child endangerment, if she's identified.

This may be the scariest video of the month ... a super curious bear spotted a few women, approached them, sniffed them, got on its hind legs and seemingly hugged them, and they lived to tell about it!!!

It went down Saturday in Mexico at the Chipinque Ecological Park. You see the bear at one point putting its paw on one of the women, almost nuzzling her.

As most people know, bears often attack when people panic or run, and how can you not when a bear is all over you?!!?

Well, these folks are amazing. They remain clam -- and pretty much still -- as 2 men in the background try to scare the bear away by talking loudly.

The bear eventually has had enough and leaves, and boy ... you can only imaging the heart rate of those women.

So here's what authorities say about black bears that get too close ... "Stay calm, never stand between a baby and its mother, do not go near or feed them, take shelter and watch it, avoid photographing it or taking selfies."

Yeah, selfies would be a real bad move.

A poor kitty cat got stuck up in a tree, but based on the rescue mission ... it was more terrified coming down than going up.

This amusing vid comes from the city of Meishan in southern China's Sichuan Province, where the frightened feline got itself in a predicament -- but was saved by a Good Samaritan.

No need to call the fire department ... this man reportedly spotted the striped cat trapped about 10-feet high up into the tree, and fetched himself a ladder.

As you can see ... the cat put a death grip on to the guy's leg once he climbed up to it, and wouldn't let go for anything. It also let out some highly melodramatic meows. Cats, right?

A high schooler made one of the most insane catches over NFL superstar Tyreek Hill at a football camp this past weekend ... and the video of the play is ABSURD!!!

Here's the deal ... Hill was holding a youth football workout on Saturday in Round Rock, Texas -- when he decided to have a little fun with the youngsters.

He played receiver and caught some passes ... but when he flipped around to defensive back -- he got put on a poster that would have made Randy Moss proud!!

Tyreeq-Styles Obichere -- a Texas high school football player who's going into the 10th grade -- routed up Tyreek, and when the ball arrived -- he snatched it from the Chiefs star with one hand. ONE HAND!!

Ya gotta watch the clip ... the catch is Odell Beckham-esque!!!

Hill gave the kid props on Twitter on Monday ... writing, "Now I see what it feels like to get snagged on, serious note though amazing grab keep that same energy future phenom cause next time I’m bring breeland to hold you."
