5:57 PM PT -- 7/12 -- Kim's alleged attacker has been charged with assault.

UPDATE

L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón says Semeon Tesfamarian launched a brutal, unprovoked attack on Kim ... and the guy has a history of allegedly attacking random people with weapons.

UPDATE

Tesfamarian is facing one count of felony assault with a deadly weapon ... and he's staring at 11 years in state prison if convicted. He is being held without bail.

UPDATE

Prosecutors say Tesfamarian allegedly approached Kim and threw a 10-inch metal bolt at her face, causing serious injuries.

Video taken in the seconds after Kim Glass was attacked on the streets of Downtown L.A. has emerged ... and it shows blood was spattered everywhere near the former volleyball star as she sat injured on the sidewalk.

Benson Parks captured the footage on his phone over the weekend, just moments after Glass, who won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, had apparently been struck by a heavy object thrown by a homeless man who was standing near her in the street.

You can see in the clips, there were several pools of blood near Glass, who was holding a bandage near her eye and yelling in pain.

The video also shows Parks holding down the man who was suspected of throwing the object.

LEFT BLOODIED AND BRUISED

As we reported, Glass claims the incident happened after she had finished dining with a friend.

"He just like looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes," Glass said of the attack. "And, as I turned to go tell my friend, 'I think something's, like, wrong with him and I think he's going to hit a car,' before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like pipe, hit me right here."

"It happened so fast."

37-year-old Glass said she suffered multiple facial fractures and needed several stitches to close the gashes on her face ... though, thankfully, she added doctors were optimistic her vision would eventually return to normal.

The suspect, meanwhile, was arrested by the LAPD ... and booked on a charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon.

UPDATE

9:50 AM PT -- The LAPD says it did arrest the suspect -- ID'ed as a 51-year-old male -- announcing Monday afternoon the man was booked for felony assault with a deadly weapon and was given no bail.

Volleyball star Kim Glass -- who won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics -- says she was attacked by a homeless man in Los Angeles this weekend ... and nearly lost her eye in the incident.

Glass said it all happened on Saturday ... after she was leaving lunch with a friend at a restaurant in Downtown L.A.

In a series of videos posted to her social media page, Glass said after she had exited the eatery, she noticed a man in the street with something in his hand.

"He just like looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes," Glass said. "And, as I turned to go tell my friend, 'I think something's, like, wrong with him and I think he's going to hit a car,' before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like pipe, hit me right here."

"It happened so fast."

The 37-year-old said the man threw the object at her from several feet away ... and it slammed right into her eye socket and the bridge of her nose -- 'causing serious damage.

In her videos, taken a day after the attack, you can see her eye was nearly swollen shut, and her face was still bloodied. She said in the clips she was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures and needed stitches to close wounds.

Somehow, Glass said doctors don't expect her vision to be permanently affected by the incident. She added she was grateful for all the support she's received from friends and family since the incident, and happy things didn't turn out worse.

"Just be safe out there," she said in her videos ... "There's a lot of mentally ill people on these streets right now and you shouldn't have to be fearful when you walk but it's true. And, so, you guys just be safe."

As for the man who she accused of throwing the object, she said bystanders held him down until police arrived. No word if the man was ultimately arrested.

Glass -- a 6-foot-3 outside hitter -- played for the U.S. Women's National Team for years following a stellar career at the Univ. Of Arizona ... and also modeled in her time off the court, appearing in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

You've heard the age-old advice of not going and chasing waterfalls, but avalanches might need to be added to the mix -- or at the very least, get out of their way if you can.

A British guy named Harry Shimmin posted this wild footage taken Friday out in Kyrgyzstan, where he says he was on a guided tour with 8 others through the Tian Shan Mountains ... at one point through which the group reached the highest point possible by hiking.

That's when an avalanche from a nearby peak started to unfold, barreling down on Harry -- who had separated from the group a bit to take photos on his own. As he looks on at the snow, which seems to be quite some distance away, he quickly realizes it's coming closer.

Soon, the reality sets in ... that he's about to be buried by this thing if he doesn't take cover. Acting as a bit of a daredevil, Shimmin waits 'til the very last second to do exactly that.

HS explains that he knew he'd be alright all along -- as he was right by a ridge where he could duck under when the snow came over him -- but admits ... it was risky business.

Beautiful area, but this just goes to show ... Mother Nature don't play!

Oprah's Father Vernon Winfrey Dead at 88

UPDATE

9:39 AM PT -- Oprah just posted a poignant tribute to her late father -- a video from the party she threw for him on July 4 that shows a friend, gospel singer Wintley Phipps, with his hand on Vernon's shoulder as he prayed for God to stand by Vernon "as he walks to the light."

FINAL TRIBUTE
UPDATE

She captioned the video with, "Vernon Winfrey 1933-2022" ... and added that her father "FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak. Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath. We could feel Peace enter the room as his passing."

Oprah is mourning the death of her dad, Vernon Winfrey, who has passed away after battling cancer.

One of Vernon's longtime employees confirmed to TMZ that he died Friday night in East Nashville, TN. A local city councilman first broke the news to Nashville's WKRN.

In what now seems to be a prescient move, Oprah had just been in town last weekend to celebrate her father.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

She surprised him by organizing a Vernon Winfrey appreciation day on July 4 ... giving the community a chance to thank Vernon for his service as a former city councilman and longtime local businessman.

As Oprah put it, "My father is ill, so we wanted to be able to have all of his friends come and celebrate him while he's able to receive the joy. So that's what we're doing."

Vernon was seated, appropriately, in a barber chair in the middle of the backyard barbecue ... as his friends and family celebrated him.

He had owned and operated Winfrey Barber & Beauty Shop for more than 50 years -- and was beloved by the community. One of his employees told us, "[Vernon] would give you the shirt off his back."

Vernon's daughter wasn't shy about how proud she was of him, and she's celebrated his accomplishments for a long time.

Back when she had her daily talk show, Oprah took her cameras back for a visit with her dad in his establishment.

Leading up to Monday's celebration, it was obvious how excited she was about planning the event.

Oprah said she was "getting back to my Nashville roots" as she posted several videos and photos with family members prepping for the BBQ.

You might recall ... her mother, Vernita Lee, passed away back in 2018 at the age of 83.

Speaking of her father earlier this week, Oprah said she wanted to make sure to give him his flowers while he was still here, and she couldn't have timed it any better.

Vernon was 88.

Shawn Mendes I Need Time to Focus on Mental Health ... Postpones World Tour

Shawn Mendes isn't ready for the road just yet -- he's temporarily pulling the plug on his tour, so he can tend to his mental health.

The singer announced he's postponing the next 3 weeks of shows on his Wonder World Tour which had just begun last week. Shawn said on Friday it breaks his heart to have to delay the shows -- which had already been pushed back due to the pandemic.

As for why he needs the break, he said ... "I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and Ive hit a breaking point."

Shawn also said touring has always been difficult for him since he started doing it when he was just 15 -- but this time he's heeding the advice of doctors.

"After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost. As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know love you guys."

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

He'd hinted at some struggles back in December when posted he was having a "hard time with social media at the moment, just kind of my relationship with it."

However, it sounds like he's dealing with more than just social media right now. Shawn's move to postpone is in line with a movement among many entertainers and athletes ... who've prioritized their mental health.

Last year, Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka pulled out of the Olympics and French Open, respectively -- and Justin Bieber famously pulled the plug on his Purpose World Tour back in 2017.

Shawn and Camila Cabello broke up last year after dating for 2 years -- although, it's unclear if that has anything to do with what he's dealing with now.

As of now, the Canadian singer is planning to return to the stage on his home turf ... a July 31 stop in Toronto.

Carlos Santana Postpones 6 Shows on Tour ... Still on Mend After Collapse

As we reported ... Santana was performing Tuesday night at the Pine Knob Music Theater, outside Detroit when he went down, sending stage hands and staffers scrambling to his side.

He was eventually rushed to a hospital for treatment, and his camp said he was suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion.

The health crisis is forcing the guitar great to pump the brakes on his Miraculous Supernatural 2022 Tour from July 8 to July 16, which includes stops in Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Dallas.

Santana's reps said they made the move "out of an abundance of caution for the artist's health." Doctors have also recommended Santana rest so he can fully recuperate.

He's planning to return to the stage July 23 in Paso Robles, CA.

The postponed shows will be rescheduled and all purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates.

Milwaukee Brewers Honoring July 4 Shooting Victim ... Dugout Jersey, Autographs & More

Awesome gesture from the Milwaukee Brewers ... the MLB team is honoring the 8-year-old boy who was paralyzed in the Highland Park shooting earlier this month at their game Friday night.

The Brewers have already hung a No. 22 "Roberts" jersey in their dugout ahead of their contest with the Pittsburgh Pirates ... an homage to Cooper Roberts, who was tragically shot and seriously injured while attending the Illinois 4th of July parade.

According to multiple reports, the Brewers will also give Cooper and his twin brother, Luke, jerseys signed by the entire team.

Milwaukee superstar and former MVP Christian Yelich also reportedly recorded a video message for Roberts and his family.

The awesome moves reportedly come just days after the team learned Roberts is a "huge" Brew Crew supporter -- the Brewers' Miller Park is, after all, roughly an hour drive from Highland Park, Ill.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for Roberts, the 8-year-old's spinal cord was severed by a bullet in the shooting. A statement from the family on Friday said Cooper is "conscious for the first time and [has] been removed from the ventilator but in a great deal of pain."

Here's to hoping the Brewers' nods to Cooper provide at least a few moments of relief for the little boy.

Padres' Jurickson Profar Diagnosed With Concussion ... After Collapsing On Field

UPDATE

11:45 AM PT -- The Padres say Profar suffered a concussion and a neck strain in the horrifying incident ... but, thankfully, they added he's out of the hospital and now resting.

UPDATE

No timeline for a return to the diamond has been given.

Terrifying moment on the baseball diamond Thursday night ... Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar collapsed following a scary collision with a teammate, and needed to be taken to the hospital.

The tense scene all happened in the fifth inning of San Diego's game against the Giants at Petco Park, when Profar was attempting to make a catch on a pop fly in left field.

As the 29-year-old was racing in to snag the ball, shortstop C.J. Abrams was sprinting out to nab it as well -- and the two crashed into each other with force.

Replays of the collision show Abrams' knee connected squarely with Profar's jaw ... sending the two straight to the ground.

Somehow, both guys got up -- but, horrifyingly, Profar collapsed after walking just a few steps, and appeared to lose consciousness.

Trainers raced to his side, and eventually, he was strapped to a stretcher and taken off the field. He was able to wave to fans as he left the diamond.

The Padres said Profar was ultimately taken to a nearby hospital, where it appears he stayed overnight. The team has yet to provide any further updates on his health.

Abrams, meanwhile, was able to stay in the game, which the Padres ended up winning, 2-1.

Cycling star Daniel Oss is out of the Tour de France ... after the Italian fractured his neck in an insane, high-speed crash with a fan during the race on Wednesday.

Oss' team, Total Energies, made the announcement on Thursday -- the day after the 35-year-old smashed into a spectator on the side of a racing path.

The collision was captured on video ... and you can see Oss -- in a white helmet and racing gear -- flying down the edge of the cobblestone lane before he brutally collided with the bystander who was trying to record the race on their phone.

Oss was able to cross the finish line but medical scans discovered he broke his neck ... leaving him out for the rest of the tour.

"Additional examinations revealed a fracture of a cervical vertebra," Oss' team said, adding that he'll now be required to be immobilized for "a few weeks."

"The whole team wishes you a good recovery Daniel."

Another biker, Michael Gogl, was also injured in the crash -- and suffered a broken collarbone and pelvis/iliac bone. He, too, was forced to withdraw from the race.

Of course, this is far from the first time fans have crashed into racers on the Tour ... just last year, a fan hit a biker with her cardboard sign during the race, causing a massive pileup.

Racing Legend Carlos Sainz Sr. Hospitalized After Wild Crash ... 'Quite A Lot Of Pain'

Racing legend Carlos Sainz Sr. -- the father of F1 superstar Carlos Sainz -- was hospitalized after a scary crash at the Extreme E Island X-Prix in Sardinia  ... but thankfully, it sounds like he's going to be okay.

60-year-old Sainz -- who races for the Acciona | Sainz XE team in the off-road series -- was leading the pack when he was hit by Johan Kristoffersson of Rosberg X Racing, which caused his vehicle to flip and roll.

Sainz was eventually able to get out of the car ... but it was clear he was in a lot of pain.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and was checked out by a medical team ... but in a statement just minutes ago, he made it clear he's still hurting.

"Luckily all the medical checks were fine and I have just been released from the hospital, although I feel quite a lot of pain," Sainz said on Twitter.

Kristoffersson was handed a 30-second penalty as a result of the accident ... which Sainz scoffed at.

"I am really disappointed nevertheless with what happened on the track and even more so with the fact that there was only a 30-second penalty for who caused this big accident."

"In over 40 years in motorsports, this is one of the most serious actions that I have ever seen without an exemplary penalty. Thanks a lot to everyone for your messages of support."

Sainz is a two-time World Rally Championship winner ... and has received numerous awards for his success in racing.

Sainz Jr. is fresh off his first win as a Formula 1 driver ... winning the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Rafael Nadal Withdraws From Wimbledon ... Over Abdominal Injury

UPDATE

11:26 AM PT -- Nadal just confirmed with reporters in London that he's pulling out ... explaining he simply can't serve with the injury.

UPDATE

He said he's saddened by the withdrawal, but admitted there was just no way he could win two more matches while injured.

UPDATE

He also said if he had somehow continued, the injury could have been made significantly worse, sidelining him from the sport for a far more lengthy period of time.

The dream Wimbledon final of Rafael Nadal vs. Novak Djokovic is no more ... Nadal just pulled out of the event due to an abdominal injury.

The Spanish tennis superstar just informed officials of his decision ... one day before he was set to take on Nick Kyrgios in a semifinals match.

Nadal had been battling the injury throughout this month's tournament in London ... but after testing it out in a practice session on Thursday, he couldn't push it any further.

Nadal, according to reports, could swing his forehand and backhand just fine while dealing with the tear in his abdominal wall -- but serving with velocity and accuracy was a different story.

Kyrgios will now advance to the final and play the winner of Friday's Djokovic vs. Cameron Norrie matchup.

Nadal is expected to discuss his decision with media members later Thursday afternoon.

Armie Hammer A Regular in Cayman Resort Offices

Armie Hammer seems to have himself a little side gig in the Cayman Islands -- or at least he's spending a bunch of time at a resort and even giving tours ... according to a witness.

This photo shows the actor in a light blue polo and blue pants, looking very much like a staffer as he walks into one of the resort offices.

Now, according to a timeshare resident ... Armie's been in the office several hours a day, and is often seen going outside for smoking breaks.

You might have heard about the flyer that popped up on Twitter Wednesday -- it has Armie's face and says he's a "personal concierge" to incoming tourists.

AH has laughed off the flyer and says it's not legit.

While that might be, the witness claims he did show at least one family around a timeshare on the resort property. TMZ's also confirmed Armie has a friend who works at the resort -- so, it's possible he's just helping out a buddy, or simply doing something to fill his time.

Either way, the guy seems to be fully settled into island life.

He moved to Cayman during the pandemic and had been quarantining there with his 2 children and now-ex-wife Elizabeth. The couple filed for divorce in July 2020, and while Elizabeth left with their kids, Armie's remained on the Caribbean island.

Armie's rep tells TMZ ... Yes, he does hang out at the resort and has a friend there. As for showing potential buyers timeshares ... the rep reached out to Armie but did not hear back.

Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu will be behind the wheel for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend ... just days after surviving a horrifying crash at Silverstone.

"Finished the final medical check, all good to go!" Guanyu tweeted Thursday morning ... sharing a pic with FIA staffers.

"Thanks to all of the people who supported me during this time, means the world. ❤️ #AustrianGP LET'S GO! 💪🏼"

The news is pretty incredible ... especially considering how serious the scene was during the first lap of the British Grand Prix.

As we reported, the crash happened after Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly tried to squeeze between Zhou and Mercedes' George Russell ... but ended up making contact with Russel, who then bumped into Zhou.

Despite his car flipping and going over the tire barrier, Zhou -- F1's first Chinese driver -- shared positive news shortly after the incident ... saying he was all good and in great spirits.

Zhou has earned 5 points so far this season and is 16th in the driver standings ... so it's awesome to see him get cleared in time for practice on Friday.

Mike Evans Shoots Down Potential Gronk Comeback ... 'I Feel Like He's Done'

A Rob Gronkowski return to the Buccaneers later this season ain't happening ... at least, that's according to Mike Evans -- who says he believes the tight end is 100 percent retired.

"I feel like he's done," Gronk's former teammate told KPRC 2 Houston this week.

Don't get it twisted -- the Tampa Bay wideout said he'd love to see the future Hall of Famer return ... but he explained he just thinks there's too much wear and tear on the 33-year-old's body for a comeback to be a real possibility.

"I hope he comes back," Evans said. "I mean, with Tom [Brady] and Gronk you never know. I wouldn't be mad if he came back. I'd actually be really excited if he came back, but I feel like he's done."

"He takes a pretty big beating," Evans added. "I've seen his body after some of them games and I understand why [he would retire]."

There has been speculation that Gronkowski could rejoin Tom Brady and the Bucs midseason -- his own agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said on the day Gronk retired last month that "I wouldn't be surprised if Rob comes back during the season or next season."

But, Evans clearly believes otherwise ... and said he expects Gronk's absence to be a big one in 2022-23.

"It hurts to lose Gronk, the best tight end ever," Evans said. "But, we gone have to make up for that in other areas. I have to play better. The running backs have to play better. Collectively we have to play better."

"We're going to miss Gronk, but I feel like we can definitely compete for a Super Bowl this year."
