Ben Affleck just upped the ante, or lowered it, amid the marital strife between Jennifer Lopez and himself -- because he's no longer wearing his wedding ring.

Well, at least he wasn't on Friday evening when pulling up to the school where his kid had a recital ... and as Ben moved the sun visor in his car, it became clear his left hand was a little lighter than it's been for almost 2 years.

As we reported, Ben has been living separately from J Lo for a few weeks now -- he moved out of the $60 million Bev Hills mansion they bought last year, and into a rental home in Brentwood.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are living such separate lives right now, they reportedly did not celebrate Mother's Day together.

As we reported, Ben has moved out of their Beverly Hills mansion, and into a home he's renting in Brentwood -- not far from where Jen Garner lives with their 2 kids -- and, although, he and J Lo were both in L.A. last Sunday ... they marked the holiday apart, according to People.

For her part, J Lo certainly had lots of feels on Mother's Day which she shared on social media -- posting about her relationship with her 16-year-old twins Max and Emme, who she had with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Jennifer Lopez liking romance advice online happened organically -- as the relationship coach behind the post has no connection to her, but her inbox is getting flooded regardless.

Lenna Marsak -- who threw up the IG post that J Lo liked Thursday, touching on unhealthy relationships -- tells TMZ ... she definitely doesn't know J Lo personally, noting that they don't even follow each other, but has a sense of how her upload made its way to Jen's feed.

Lenna says the post in question had already been doing well -- in terms of performance and shares -- so it's possible Jenn just stumbled across it on her explore page on IG and liked it.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are still on speaking terms as they go through whatever they're going through -- they briefly reunited for the sake of their kids, but they're still not under the same roof.

The couple was photographed together for the first time in well over a month Thursday evening, coming together for a school play starring Ben's kid, Fin.

We're told Ben and Jen arrived separately, but both showed up with flowers for Fin ... and they didn't keep their distance. They were chatting it up with each other ahead of the play.

This morning, paps got him leaving that same area ... and he appeared to be riding solo. We're also told that Ben was NOT spotted at his house with J Lo the night prior -- so it seems he spent the night here at this Brentwood address.
