Empathy aside, Oprah and Jennifer developed a business relationship of sorts. Jennifer was slated to produce the life story of -- get this -- James Frey. The author of 'A Million Little Pieces' had been heavily-promoted by Oprah until a story exposed the fact that Frey had lied about his past. Nonetheless, the movie project was yet another link between Oprah and Jen.
Avril Lavigne's Secret Wedding Plans
(April 5) -- It looks like "punk chick" Avril Lavigne's hellraiser days are over. We're told she's planning a summer wedding with Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley.
A more mature blonde-haired and groomed Lavigne appeared at the Kids Choice Awards last week looking nothing like she did during her 'Complicated' years. And speaking of kids, Avril wants some of her own, and stat.
Lavigne -- who got engaged to her fellow Canadian last summer -- has told her friends to brace themselves for a traditional white wedding at an undisclosed church in Beverly Hills. But the reception will be a different story.
The "lovebirds" plan to have circus performers, comedians and "known" rock bands playing during the celebration. Afterwords, they'll jet-to Paris, then a villa in the South of France.
At the moment Avril, 21, and Deryck, 26, are renovating the house they bought together in Santa Monica. She's already turning one of the bedroom's into a nursery. And with millions in the bank from her best selling albums, 'Let Go and Under My Skin,' she can certainly afford the remodel.

The reported romance between the current king of comedy and America's most eligible divorcee was the topic for discussion Wednesday morning on Vegas' Mix 94.1 'Mark and Mercedes in the Morning' show.

HOW IT STARTED: London tabloids reported that Anderson was dating a wildly-successful venture capitalist named Laurence Hallier, after a reporter spotted Pam planting a kiss on him at London's Kabaret Club.
HOW IT SPREAD: Anderson recently purchased a condo in the super-ritzy Panorama Towers on the Las Vegas strip, which will officially open next month. The complex will be populated by some of the biggest celebs in the world (we're told they include Leo and Toby) and it's owned by none other then Laurence Hallier.
It's easy to see why Pam would take to Laurence. Hallier is one of the smartest, hippest businessmen around. He created Taxi Tops - you know, those ads you see on top of taxis - cornered the market, then sold it to Clear Channel in 2001 for a cool $120,000,000. The 37-year-old has diversified and expanded his fortune by developing and investing internationally in hotels, condos, movies - you name it. He's into race cars, and seems to know every celeb and every wheeler dealer out there.

The couple met five months ago through -- get this -- Rick Solomon, Paris Hilton's partner on the infamous sex tape. And, on March 20, when asked by a paparazzo when she was going to see Nick again she snapped: "I'm not talking to you about that."

Cameras caught 'Laguna Beach' star Kristin Cavallari returning home yesterday and refusing to answer questions about her rumored new beau, Nick Lachey. According to TMZ sources, Kristin was coming back from Nick's new Bel Air mansion.
When the cameraman asked Kristin directly, "When are you going to see Nick again?" Kristin replied, "I'm not going to talk to you about that."
Several of Nick's friends tell TMZ that they're worried Kristin is using the pop star to further her own career.
Last week, Kristin guest starred on an episode of the UPN show, 'Veronica Mars.'

Elton John Accepts Libel Settlement
Elton John accepted an undisclosed financial settlement Thursday of a libel lawsuit against the Sunday Times.
His lawyer, Hanna Basha, said in court that the newspaper had repeated a false rumor that the rocker acted in a self-important, arrogant and rude manner by telling guests at a fundraising ball not to address him unless spoken to.
The 58-year-old singer wasn't in court for the announcement of the settlement over the Sunday Times' report in June.
Times Newspapers Ltd. said it had agreed to pay damages to John, who will donate the funds to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
"As soon as the defendant found out the story was untrue it had been picked up from another newspaper it immediately apologized to Sir Elton and it is happy to repeat that apology here today," said the newspaper's lawyer, Alastair Brett.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Deny Breakup Report
Not true.
That's what Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes said Tuesday about a Valentine's Day report on the Life & Style magazine Web site, which claimed Cruise and Holmes had split up and called off their wedding.
"It should be known that the story is 100 percent false," Arnold Robinson, a publicist for the couple, said in a statement. "Mr. Cruise and Ms. Holmes are still engaged and are moving forward with their wedding plans, as well as planning for the arrival of their child."
The Feb. 27 issue, which will be on news stands Friday, said the public pair "plan to keep up the charade of their romance until after their baby's birth this spring."
Holmes, 27, and Cruise, 43, have been engaged since June. They announced their pregnancy in October.
"Despite the malicious fallacies put forth by Life & Style magazine, the couple is looking forward to a long and happy life together as a family," Robinson said.
A representative for the magazine said the story was accurate: "We stand 100 percent behind our story."
The magazine said its story was based on information from two unnamed friends of Cruise. "So right now they're together but not together. It's a really weird situation and unhealthy for both of them," one of those purported friends is quoted as saying.

TMZ has learned that 'Desperate Houswives' star Nicollette Sheridan will pick up a cool 10 grand just for showing up tomorrow night at Pure nightclub in Las Vegas.
We're told Nicollette will dress up as one of the sexy Pussycat Dolls, do a walk on, and walk off $10K richer.
