Golden Globes 2022 No Audience, Celebs in Attendance Show Will Highlight Plan to Improve Diversity

The Golden Globes are, indeed, happening this year -- but there'll be some major changes ... including where you can catch it, and who will (or won't, rather) be there to bear witness.

A release Tuesday states the Globes are going to be livestreamed this year, where winners will be announced for their respective categories. The big difference, of course, is that NBC will not be carrying the broadcast ... nor will any other major network.

There also won't be a large audience or any celebs in attendance.

You'll recall ... the NBC decision came down last year after some diversity controversy caused by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which many felt hadn't done enough by 2021's show to nominate more people of color -- something they vowed to fix and work on going forward. It even became a running (awkward) gag throughout last year's ceremony.

They've made some strides since then ... but not nearly in enough time to find another home.

During the show, Kyle Bowser, Senior Vice President of the NAACP Hollywood Bureau will break down the "Reimagine Coalition," a movement to increase diversity across the entertainment biz. The coalition is a five-year initiative.

Of course, there will still be COVID precautions in place for the few who are able to attend and present, including proof of vax AND booster as well as a negative PCR test.

Besides that, we're told it'll be host-less and spectator-less ... this despite the fact there are some huge names up for awards. Some notable ones ... Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington, Mahershala Ali, Nicole Kidman, just to name a few.

However, the main focus of the show will be on the orgs the HFPA has worked with and sponsored over the years.

You see, there's a lot of licensing money HFPA gains from broadcasting the program, which it then dishes out to different charities. Because that won't be happening in 2022, we're told HFPA brass is banking on people's generosity so they can continue helping others.

Golden Globes HFPA Rolls Out Detailed Plan ... After NBC Dumps Show

UPDATE

3:15 PM PT -- HFPA has responded to NBC putting their award show on the shelf for a year, and it looks like the move lit a fire under their ass -- 'cause they've got a way quicker (and excruciatingly detailed) timeline on what they're going to do to shape up ... and exactly when.

UPDATE

The org says, "Regardless of the next air date of the Golden Globes, implementing transformational changes as quickly -- and as thoughtfully -- as possible remains the top priority for our organization." They add, "We invite our partners in the industry to the table to work with us on the systemic reform that is long overdue, both in our organization as well as within the industry at large."

UPDATE

Starting this week, HFPA will begin the process of adding 20 new members (presumably all of whom will be BIPOC) by August ... and increasing their membership by 50% in 18 mos. By the end of May, HFPA is aiming to hire a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant, a bunch of other execs, roll out a new code of conduct and train their members up ASAP.

UPDATE

Come June, they're planning to review new bylaws with an independent firm they're bringing on, and also form a new credentials committee ... while sending out ballots to vote on these changes. In July, they're hoping all the new bylaws will be adopted and all the changes will go into effect -- and when August rolls around, they want to admit their new class of HFPA members. There's A LOT to do, but HFPA wants everyone to know ... they're on it.

Looks like there will be one less award show next year ... NBC just axed the 2022 Golden Globes because of a lack of diversity within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The network announced its decision to cut ties with the Golden Globes Monday, citing the need for "meaningful reform" at the HFPA, which is stirring outrage in Hollywood due to a lack of people of color among its members.

NBC says it won't air the Golden Globes in 2022, but the network's leaving the door open for the award show's return in January 2023, as long as the HFPA follows through with a new plan to increase membership among POC.

Remember, the HFPA -- a non-profit made up of international journalists who put on (and vote for winners of) the Golden Globes -- has been called out for reportedly having ZERO Black members for several years now.

The hosts of this year's Golden Globes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, even raised the issue during NBC's February broadcast.

NBC's decision to ax the Globes comes the same day Tom Cruise reportedly returned his 3 Golden Globe trophies to the HFPA in a sign of protest.

There's been growing opposition to HFPA ... as we reported, Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson recently called on Hollywood to "step back" from HFPA, and the Globes by extension.

Meanwhile, the HFPA says it's planning to make sweeping changes ... like admitting 20 new members with a focus on Black recruitment.

NBC says change at the HFPA "takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right."

See ya in 2023?!?

Golden Globes At Risk of Getting Axed HFPA's Diversity Timeline Scorched

There could be one less award show next year if the Hollywood Foreign Press Association doesn't get its act together, 'cause Tinseltown is threatening to not play ball anymore.

You mighta heard about the drama this week with the HFPA -- a non-profit made up of int'l journalists who put on (and vote for winners of) the Golden Globes each year. They've been under a barrel lately due to a major lack of diversity in their ranks -- and after coming out with a new plan to increase membership among POC ... they're still getting torched.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

Netflix and Amazon spoke out over the past couple days and said ... they're not participating with anything HFPA puts on until they expedite this reform process beyond what they're already planning, which they say isn't doing nearly enough to address their issues.

Ditto for Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo -- who are saying the same thing ... specifically calling on their peers to "step back" from HFPA (and the Golden Globes by extension).

ScarJo's statement is especially harsh, as she alludes to sexual harassment issues the org has apparently fostered over the years, even invoking the name of Harvey Weinstein.

She told Variety, "As an actor promoting a film, one is expected to participate in awards season by attending press conferences as well as awards shows. In the past, this has often meant facing sexist questions and remarks by certain HFPA members that bordered on sexual harassment. It is the exact reason why I, for many years, refused to participate in their conferences."

ScaJo adds this ... “The HFPA is an organization that was legitimized by the likes of Harvey Weinstein to amass momentum for Academy recognition and the industry followed suit. Unless there is necessary fundamental reform within the organization, I believe it is time that we take a step back from the HFPA and focus on the importance and strength of unity within our unions and the industry as a whole."

If you're unfamiliar with what all the fuss is about -- HFPA was reported to have had ZERO Black members for several years now, something the hosts of this year's Globes show -- Tina Fey and Amy Poehler -- lampooned over and over during the NBC broadcast in February.

Some high-profile members even trotted out during the show and committed to "doing better" ... but their current goals are pretty weak, according to the movers and shakers, who are the lifeblood of the Globes to begin with. Without studios or talent, there's no show.

Here's what HFPA plans to do ASAP -- admit 20 new members with a focus on Black recruitment, increasing membership by 50% over 18 months, losing the "must live in SoCal" requirement, opening membership to journos beyond print, no more promo gift handouts, a stricter code of conduct for press junkets and hiring a managing staff ... like CEOs and stuff.

Sounds good on paper, but it's not up to snuff for some Hollywood heavyweights, it seems.

Questlove on 'Golden Globes' Tina, Amy Ripping HFPA is Lip Service ... Until it Diversifies!!!

NOT ENOUGH
TMZ.com

Questlove says Amy Poehler and Tina Fey calling out the Golden Globes organization for a lack of diversity doesn't amount to much more than a performance ... at least for now.

We got "The Tonight Show" band frontman heading into work Monday at NBC Studios in New York City and asked about Amy and Tina taking shots at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for having NO black members during the award show.

It certainly seemed strange for the show's own hosts, and other celebs, to openly raise the issue during the broadcast -- but Quest, for one, was not impressed.

He called the remarks purely "performative," and put it squarely on the HFPA to actually add Black members. Until then, he's basically saying ... spare me the lip service.

There's been a lot of backlash against the HFPA, whose members vote on the Golden Globes. As you might have heard ... it's got 87 members, and not a single one is Black.

It doesn't sound like Questlove is holding his breath for it to happen, but like many others, he wants to see real change before next year's Globe nominations.

Jodie Foster Wins Golden Globe ... Thanks Aaron Rodgers!!!

Did you know Jodie Foster and Aaron Rodgers are quickly forming a very wacky and fun friendship!?!

It's true ... 'cause just a few weeks after the Packers star thanked the actress in his NFL MVP acceptance speech -- Jodie did the same for the QB after winning a Golden Globe!!

The shout-out was wild ... Foster earned Best Actress in a Supporting Role on Sunday -- and toward the end of her acceptance speech, she name-dropped A-Rodge!

"I love my wife, thank you, Alex," Jodie said. "And [my dog] Ziggy. And Aaron Rodgers!!!"

As for why this is all happening ... it's all super unclear -- but it's hilarious nonetheless.

Rodgers thanked the "Silence Of The Lambs" star out of the blue after winning MVP honors in early February, and when Jodie was asked about it on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" a few days later, she said she didn't even know the guy personally.

But, Jodie is a massive Green Bay fan ... AND she co-starred in "The Mauritanian" with Rodgers' fiancee, Shailene Woodley -- so there is a connection there.

And it's clear the two have talked it all out since ... 'cause after Jodie's call-out Sunday, she said Rodgers sent her a video message with a challenge!

"I just got a very cute video from Aaron Rodgers," Jodie said after winning her award, "where he says he’s going to get me back. So I’m looking forward to this. We’ll see who wins.”

A Rodgers-Foster thank you shout-out competition ... we didn't know we needed it in 2021 -- but we're sure as hell glad it's here now!

Golden Globes Background Pics ... Take a Look Behind the Stars!!!

I spy a globe, a piano, butterfly artwork, a dog, 3 pipes and yes -- a dinosaur on a sled ... all behind the celebs who appeared on the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards.

Ranging from Jeff Daniels' hilariously basic background to lavish living rooms to Sandra Oh's snowy landscape, all the actors up for awards put on a show behind the show Sunday night ... and it's a lot of fun to have a look at their homes.

Of course, just as wide-ranging as their Zoom backdrops were their outfits, with many opting for traditionally formal and fancy ... and others going with flannel.

And, Jason Sudeikis in a hoodie.

All-in-all, the Globes never fail to entertain ... even during a pandemic.

Chadwick Boseman Wife Accepts His Golden Globe Award In Emotional Speech

ON BEHALF OF CHADWICK
NBC

Chadwick Boseman won a Golden Globe, and his wife gave a touching and emotional acceptance speech on behalf of the late actor.

Taylor Simone Ledward accepted Boseman's Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama Sunday night during the COVID-cautious ceremony. Ledward was emotional and ran through a list of everyone her husband would have thanked if he was still alive to accept the honor.

Ledward opened her speech saying Chadwick would thank God and his parents ... she also mentioned Boseman's team, both on and off the set of "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom." In closing, Taylor said, "We have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love, so thank you HFPA for this opportunity to do exactly that."

Chadwick died in August of last year after a very private battle with colon cancer. He was only 43.

Quentin Tarantino I'll Sign Your Stuff, Paps ... But After That, So Long & GTFOH!!!

Quentin Tarantino
WORKIN' THE CROWD
TMZ.com

Quentin Tarantino will do the line-of-autographs thing, but don't push your luck ... 'cause he's got no problem telling you to screw off and to never bother him again. All love though.

The acclaimed director -- who's clearly still riding out the high of winning big at the Golden Globes this past weekend with "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" -- was making his way out of a hotel Wednesday in NYC ... and was met with a crush of paps and Hancock hounds.

He played along pretty well, jokingly telling the swarm of photogs to cool it and to stop following him everywhere. After that, he went down the line with a pen in hand and signed a bunch of memorabilia, making sure no one double-dipped with security in tow.

You gotta see how QT goes about talking to the mega-fans here ... telling a lot of them he never wants to see them after this, and also ... to GTFOH with their BS questions.

It's pretty hilarious, and kinda classic Quentin if you ask us. His acceptance speech on Sunday was in the same vein, humorous and a little cocky. All in good fun, of course.

Now, just imagine how he'll act if he cleans up at the Oscars in a month ... oh, boy!

Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston No Romantic Link ... We're Just Friends, Seriously!!!

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston being in the same room will get anyone talking about a possible reunion, but their most recent run-in will leave Brennifer shippers disappointed.

Sources close to the former couple tell TMZ ... Brad and Jen didn't get the chance to chat much during Sunday night's Golden Globes show and the goings-on afterward. We're told they did exchange greetings and pleasantries at the after-party they both attended, but that's about it.

Fact is, the two Hollywood heavyweights have a lot of mutual friends in the biz -- and they do cross paths from time-to-time because of that, especially during big parties like this.

Ramy Youssef at TSA Shoes, Laptops, Belts and ... Your Golden Globe in the Bin, Sir!!!

010720_ramy_youssef_kal_v2
THE GOLDEN GLOBE GOES TO ...

Comedian Ramy Youssef's got issues with TSA -- which you'd expect, of course ... because he now has to get his Golden Globe Award through "random" screenings.

Fresh off his victory, the star of Hulu's "Ramy" was at LAX Tuesday morning trying to make his way through TSA. Everyone around him was busy placing their shoes, jackets and belts in bins -- but when he had to place his Golden Globe on the belt ... Ramy had to record the occasion.

You can see Ramy's new hardware -- after winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy -- get screened, much to the agent's delight.

The trophy -- securely tucked in its case -- CLEARLY shows up in TSA's screening equipment. But, the agent still feels compelled to open the case, take out the Golden Globe and wipe it down, for "security purposes," of course. She even posed with it as if she's the big winner. Hard to say she isn't when ya see the video.

Ramy definitely thought it was funny ... on his Instagram he joked, "The 'random' checks you have to deal with when you have a [M]uslim name."

He said it -- golden global humor.

Billy Porter We Won't 'Shut Up and Sing,' Ricky!!! We Actors Are Smart, K?!?

Billy Porter
WE DESERVE A SAY
TMZ.com

Ricky Gervais wants Hollywood to shut up and just sing or act ... and to stay the hell out of politics ... but Billy Porter's vowing to speak out whenever and wherever he wants.

We got the "Pose" star at LAX -- where he was flying out of town after Sunday's Golden Globes awards -- and asked what he made of the host jokingly telling the stars to lay off politics while onstage ... 'cause they're not really educated on the issues.

ICYMI ... Ricky pretty much said nobody really gives a crap what actors and singers have to say on social or political issues, so they should avoid them during acceptance speeches. Funny enough, several winners did NOT take the note.

Ricky Gervais Jabs Golden Globes Thank Goodness It's Over!!!

BACKGRID
UPDATE

11:58 AM PT -- Ricky was out Monday morning in WeHo and dude's still on fire. The comedian's asked how he enjoyed the Golden Globes ... saying he loved it -- but only after it ended. Classic. Ricky also doubles down saying he's NOT hosting these awards anymore ... or so it seems.

Ricky Gervais went scorched earth to kick off the 77th Golden Globes ... taking shots at the biggest names in the room ... and a couple who weren't there.

The host opened Sunday night's award show with a beer in hand and a promise to offend people ... starting with Felicity Huffman's prison sentence, Joe Pesci's size and Leonardo DiCaprio's dating life.

The Leo jab was related to the 3-hour-long "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" -- Ricky joked by the time the premiere was over, Leo's date was too old for him. He added Prince Andrew -- an old Jeffrey Epstein acquaintance -- even thought Leo's GFs are too young.

Gervais openly stated his 5th time hosting the Globes would be his last, so he was going out with a bang -- also taking down R. Kelly, Michael Jackson and even his bosses at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ... which runs the GG.

Brad Pitt No Kudos for Kids Was Strategic ... During Globes Speech

Brat Pitt thanked all the usual suspects after winning a Golden Globe -- except his children, which was an intentional and strategic move for their well-being.

If you missed it ... Pitt took home the Best Supporting Actor award Sunday night for his role in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." He shouted out fellow nominees, director Quentin Tarantino, costar Leonardo DiCaprio and also his parents -- but he made no mention of his 6 kids.

It was a curious omission, but our sources closely connected to Brad say this is par for the course -- he never mentions them publicly and wants it to remain that way. We're told he feels this is the best way to maintain their privacy, because he knows simply acknowledging his children in a speech could attract unwanted attention.

Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston Hit Up Same Golden Globes After-Party

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are forever linked ... and they only add strength to that bond when they hit up the same parties after awards shows.

The 2 stars both attended the CAA after-party at the Sunset Tower Hotel Sunday night, following the 77th Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton ... where they also sat in close proximity.

Of course, both Brad and Jen were nominated for awards -- he for Best Supporting Actor in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and she for Best Actress in "The Morning Show" -- so they had good reason to keep the party going at the talent agency bash.

Still, they're going to turn heads when they're rubbing elbows at an event ... even if they arrive and leave separately, as they did at the CAA after-party.

Tiffany Haddish Drops Bars at Golden Globes After-Party ... You REEAAADY?!?

GETTIN' THE PARTY STARTED
TMZ.com

Tiffany Haddish warned the crowd a couple of times and then greatness ensued when she started rapping!!!

Tiffany had one helluva busy Sunday night ... which ended in spectacular fashion at Netflix's Golden Globes after-party in Bev Hills. Tiffany muscled her way over to the DJ's booth, grabbed the mic and hyped the crowd up before rapping to City Girls' banger, "Act Up."

Ya gotta see the crowd under a massive tent on a lot adjacent to the Beverly Hilton Hotel. They went nuts!!!

It was a pretty eventful night for Tiffany. The comedian, who wore an elegant pink dress, displayed a Star of David necklace honoring her Black Jewish roots on her father's side, which she discovered after taking a genealogy test.

The "Like a Boss" actress -- along with the lovely Salma Hayek -- also presented "Chernobyl" with a Golden Globe in the Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category.

Golden Globes After the Party, It's the After-Party ... And Everyone Showed Up

As the Golden Globes broadcast wound down, the after-parties fired up -- and it was truly a who's-who of Hollywood ... 'cause everyone and their mothers came through.

Some of the biggest studios in showbiz threw their own respective shindigs, including Hulu, Amazon, HBO, Netflix, Warner Bros. and others. That was more than enough to get mostly everyone who'd just been at the Beverly Hilton to come out for another hurrah.

Folks like Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Isla Fisher, Naomi Watts, Tiffany Haddish, Awkwafina, Kate Beckinsale, Patrick Stewart, Paris Hilton, Joaquin Phoenix, La La Anthony, Keegan-Michael Key, Helen Mirren, ScarJo and Al Pacino were in attendance.

Other stars seemed to be down to pose as duos, like Sofia Vergara and Sarah Hyland; Salma Hayek and Patricia Arquette; Nicholas Braun and Robert Greenblatt; Sabrina Carpenter and Joey King; Lisa Bonet and Zoey Kravits; Jason Momoa and Sacha Baron Cohen ... and lots more.

If you thought anybody who's anybody was at the Globes, the parties afterward were exponentially even more so. Bottom line ... if you're famous, you were at one of these.
