LeBron James Message To Adam Silver ... I Want To Own Vegas NBA Team!!!
LeBron James sent a message loud and clear to Adam Silver on Wednesday night ... sayin' if the NBA expands to Las Vegas, he's calling dibs on owning the new team.
"I want the team here, Adam," the Lakers superstar said. "Thank you."
James, a newly crowned billionaire, has made the public plea to get the Sin City squad before -- back in June, he said on an episode of "The Shop" his goal was to be the LV honcho one day.
But, following L.A.'s 119-115 preseason loss to the Suns in Vegas, James made it crystal clear to media members in attendance that he was dead serious about it all.
"I would love to bring a team here at some point," James said on the postgame podium. "That would be amazing."
Unclear if the Association has imminent plans to expand -- but if a move to 32 teams is on the horizon, rumors have swirled that Seattle and Las Vegas would be the targets.
James is clearly in love with the Nevada idea ... going as far as to say Vegas has "the best fan base in the world."
Currently, the NBA prohibits players from owning a team while also playing -- but Silver does have the power to bend the rules.

Brittney Griner Wife 'Terrified' For WNBA Star In Russia Feels Like 'She's A Hostage'
Brittney Griner's wife, Cherelle, is speaking out for the first time since the WNBA star was sentenced to nine years in prison in Russia ... saying it feels like her partner is being held as "a hostage" in the foreign country.
Cherelle sat down for an interview with Gayle King this week -- and explained she's absolutely "terrified" of what's going on with Griner, her trial, and the negotiations to get her out.
"It's like a movie for me," she said. "In no world did I ever thought our president and a foreign nation president would be sitting down having to discuss the freedom of my wife."
Griner -- who's been married to Cherelle since 2019 -- was arrested in February in Russia after she was found to have hashish oil in her luggage while at an airport.
During her trial, Griner admitted to having the substances in her bag, but she told a judge that she packed it by mistake and had no intentions of breaking Russian laws. She was eventually found guilty -- and sentenced to nine years behind bars.
She is appealing the ruling, and the date for a hearing on that matter has been set for Oct. 25.
Cherelle says it's all been a horrifying experience for her.
Brittney Griner Appealing Drug Conviction In Russia
"As much as everybody's telling me a different definition of what BG is, it feels to me as if she's a hostage," Cherelle said. "It terrifies me."
Cherelle told King she has legitimate worries that she may never see her wife again.
"When you watch movies," she said, "sometimes those situations don't end well. Sometimes they never get the person back."
President Joe Biden has vowed to do everything in his power to get the basketball player home ... saying in August he and his administration will "work tirelessly" until she's back.

Devean George Lakers Shouldn't Trade Westbrook ... 'I Think It Could Work'
-
Exclusive

Former Laker Devean George isn't ready to bail on the Russell Westbrook experiment in L.A. -- telling TMZ Sports they should stick with the point guard amid rumors he could get shipped out of town.
We spoke with George -- who won three titles with Shaq and Kobe Bryant from 2000-02 -- at LAX this week ... and he said the Lakers shouldn't entertain the idea of trading away Russ, whose name has been at the heart of trade rumors all offseason.
"I think it can work," George said. "I'm a fan of Russell. Maybe I'm caught up in what he's done in the past."
George admitted that Westbrook does need to adjust his style of play ... but ultimately, he says the ex-MVP, along with his teammates, need to play their respective roles on the team.
"Too much talent," George said. "I think that's the main thing. Everybody just do their role and cut back and not say what I used to do. I'm just a fan of Russ, so I'm a little biased."
Malik Monk Says LeBron, AD, Russ Can Coexist On Lakers, 'It'll Work Out'
Westbrook's name was rumored to be on the move during the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes, and most recently, the triple-double king reportedly was the centerpiece of a deal involving Pacers stars Myles Turner and Buddy Hield.
The Lakers missed the playoffs last season -- finishing with a 33-49 record, 11th worst in the Western Conference, but George is predicting a return to the playoffs with the trio of Russ, LeBron James, and (a healthy) Anthony Davis leading the way.
"I think they can get into being a dangerous team come playoff time," the three-time NBA champ said. "Once playoff time comes, I think they'll be able to make some noise."
George sees the Lakers finishing this season anywhere between the fifth and eighth seed, but he says the Lake Show could finish as high as fourth -- if AD can stay on the court.

He was just 16 years old.
Officials in Essex County, NJ told multiple media outlets that Duncan -- a sophomore at East Orange Campus High School -- was shot four times at around 3:15 PM near his H.S. He was rushed to a nearby hospital ... but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities told NJ.com no arrests have been in the case ... though investigators are looking for "a group of people and a vehicle seen in the area at the time of the shooting."
Anyone with information is being urged to call 1-877-847-7432.

Duncan, a point guard, was considered a top talent in the state. His AAU team, Garden State Bounce, had described him as a "floor general, team captain, and the best point guard our program has seen."
"He was an excellent teammate," the team added in a social media post mourning his loss, "a great friend, and a coach's ideal player."
City officials, meanwhile, said in a statement on Tuesday that Duncan's death "has shaken our community to its core." They said police patrols in schools would be increased in wake of the tragedy -- and vowed to take "aggressive action" when it comes to the fight to end gun violence.
A GoFundMe for Duncan's family has been set up -- and has already raised nearly $5,000.

Tiffany Jackson Former WNBA Player Dead At 37 ... After Battling Cancer
Tiffany Jackson -- a former WNBA player and Texas Longhorns legend -- has passed away after her battle with cancer, her alma mater confirmed.
She was only 37.
The Texas women's basketball team announced the devastating news Monday evening, saying the former UT forward -- who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2015 -- died from the disease.
"Tiffany had a great career and was an impact player," her former UT coach Jody Conradt said.
"She was recognized for her all-around game and the fact that she was tremendously mobile and could play multiple positions. She was beloved by teammates, and we share in the sadness of her passing."
Jackson was a hoops star in high school, winning a state title and Gatorade's Player of the Year award.
The awards didn't stop after high school ... during her four years at UT ('03 to '07), she won ESPN's National Freshman Of The Year award and became the only person at the school to record a combined 1,000 points, 1,0000 rebounds, 300 steals, and 150 blocks.
Jackson was selected 5th overall in the 2007 WNBA Draft and went on to play for the New York Liberty, Tulsa Shock and Los Angeles Sparks during her 9-year career.
After retiring in 2018, she re-joined the Longhorns as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team. Then, in April of this year, she got a head coaching gig ... when she was named the HC at Wiley College.
"I know she was so excited to be the head coach at Wiley College for the upcoming season," UT current head coach Vic Schaefer said.
"She will be sorely missed by so many. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family."
Several WNBA players paid tribute to Jackson, including Tamika Catchings, who called her "absolutely amazing."
"Going to miss her smile, presence and heart for others."

Adelaide 36ers stars Craig Randall and Robert Franks put the basketball world on notice after beating the Phoenix Suns in a preseason game ... and now, the hoopers tell TMZ Sports they hope their stellar performances eventually lead to NBA jobs.
26-year-old Randall -- the G League's Most Improved Player in 2022 -- led the way with 35 points for the 36ers ... going 9-17 from three and 13-21 overall from the field.
Franks, 25, also added 32 points on 6-10 from three and 11-20 overall ... as the 36ers stunned the Suns, 134-124.
We spoke with Randall and Franks about the big win ... and Randall says while the rest of the world was shocked with the end result, they weren't.
"We came out, we did what we thought that we could do and we wanted to do and the outcome turned in our favor," the former Memphis and UT Martin star tell us.
Franks -- who played college ball at Washington State -- says the 36ers have had several practices recently where all the players were constantly hitting their shots ... so they knew if they were able to click during a game, it would be bad news for their opponents.
"Last night, we all got clicking and it got scary," the former Orlando Magic player added. "That feeling was crazy, just to feed off each other."
Both Randall and Franks make it clear they're proud to be members of the Adelaide 36ers organization ... but naturally, they see their preseason games as an opportunity to show NBA scouts what they can really do on the court -- and they hope they get that shot one day.
There's more -- we also spoke with the two stars about whether they felt the Suns overlooked their matchup with the 36ers ... and they send a message to all the people who were watching them ball out on Sunday.

Devin Booker is clapping back at the haters after the Suns lost to an Australian basketball team on Sunday ... by posting LeBron James' infamous reaction to losing the 2011 NBA Finals.
Booker and the Suns -- who played all five starters -- lost to the Adelaide 36ers, 134-124, in their first preseason game ... the first time an NBA team lost to a National Basketball League team.
After the L, Book posted a screenshot of LeBron's viral speech following the Heat's Finals loss ... adding the caption, "Mood."
Remember, LBJ was asked if he was bothered by fans rooting for his downfall ... and the King offered an honest, candid response -- but it was met with backlash for how it came across.
"At the end of the day, all the people that's rooting for me to fail, they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life that they had before they woke up today," James said.
"They can get a few days or a few months on being happy about not only myself but the Miami Heat not accomplishing their goal, but they have to get back to the real world at some point."
James would clarify his comments a few days later ... stating he wasn't saying he was superior to others, but rather everyone has to move on with their lives, good or bad.
Booker's clearly ready to move on from this one, too.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Rips Kyrie Over Alex Jones Video ... Sponsors Should Drop Him!!!

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says Kyrie Irving has done something "more destructive, insensitive, and just plain silly" than his COVID-19 vax stance ... going off on the NBA superstar for sharing a controversial Alex Jones video on social media.
The Brooklyn Nets guard came under fire last month after reposting a 2002 clip of the "InfoWars" host ranting about a New World Order that would release plagues into society for financial gain ... which featured the caption "Alex Jones Tried To Warn Us."
Kyrie Irving just posted a video clip entitled “Never Forget - Alex Jones Tried To Warn Us” with Jones claiming back in 2002 that a “New World Order” would release “plagues upon us…” pic.twitter.com/sz2Ps7Fbrn

Irving's Jones endorsement came weeks after the talking head apologized in court for claiming the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax ... so the timing was a bit odd to say the least.
Now, KAJ is weighing in on Irving's actions ... saying if it weren't for young basketball fans, he'd be "dismissed as a comical buffoon."
"Alex Jones is one of the most despicable human beings alive and to associate with him means you share his stench," the Lakers legend said on his website.
"When I look at some of the athletes who have used their status to actually improve society-- Colin Kaepernick, LeBron James, Muhammad Ali, Bill Russell, Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe, and more -- it becomes clear how much Irving has tarnished the reputations of all athletes who strive to be seen as more than dumb jocks."
Abdul-Jabbar says people shouldn't just scoff at Irving -- there should be action -- and he wants those outraged to write to the All-Star's sponsors to demand they cut ties with him.
"Irving does not seem to have the capacity to change, but we have the capacity to keep fighting against his brand of destructive behavior."
FYI -- Irving's deal with Nike is most likely up after this season, but KAJ points out he still has deals with Pepsi and 2K Sports.
Abdul-Jabbar says no one should feel guilty for it, either ... pointing out Irving has made $230 million in his career.

Mark Cuban says despite a rehab stint and some recent positive updates, Delonte West is still struggling to get on the right path.
The Dallas Mavericks owner told TMZ Sports out in NYC this week that he's been keeping in contact with his former player ... and, sadly, he said West is continuing to fight to get healthy.
"It's a struggle for him," Cuban said. "I mean, addiction is awful. And mental illness is awful. He's at the point in his life where he's got to want to be helped."
West has battled substance abuse issues in his past -- and has been spotted panhandling in the streets several times in the last few years.
But, back in 2020, Cuban helped him check into a rehab facility. And, this past June, West landed a flooring gig -- and appeared to be getting back on his feet.
Cuban, though, said West still has a long way to go.
"You know, he's got to want to help himself first," Mark said. "I've tried. I know it's tough on him, but I wish him nothing but the best."
West played for four franchises during his 8-year NBA career ... including Cuban's Mavs from 2011-2012. He played his last pro basketball game with the Mavericks' G-League team, the Texas Legends, in 2015.

Ben Wallace knows being an NBA coach isn't easy, but the former NBA star tells TMZ Sports that his ex-teammate Darvin Ham is the perfect man for the Lakers' job.
"I know he's a great locker room guy," Wallace said at LAX this week ... "I think the guys are going to rally around him. I think his message is going to be on point for that team."
"I think it's just a matter of him buying into the system and going out there playing basketball. You can look at the team and tell they're built to win."
Wallace, who played 16 seasons in the NBA, primarily with the Pistons (he also played for the Wizards, Bulls, Magic, and Cavs), says NBA coaches don't get enough credit for the work they put in.
FYI, Wallace and Ham played together from 2003 to 2005 ... and won a championship together in 2004.
Ben -- a four-time All-Star and four-time Defensive Player of the Year -- visited his old pal at Lakers practice this week, where he was seen talking with Patrick Beverley, who was recently acquired by trade.
The Lakers had an extremely disappointing 2021-22 season, going 33-49, and missing the playoffs.

We also asked Ben if he had interest in becoming a head coach himself, and while Big Ben didn't rule out the possibility, he told us he's not looking to dedicate his entire life to the job ... 'cause he's enjoying life.
"That's a lot of work," Wallace said ... "It's a lot of work. I'm back around the team. Maybe I'll get that buzz once or twice, but for now, I'm enjoying what I'm doing."
Wallace also spoke about "Undrafted" -- the cannabis company he launched with RAIR Cannabis -- along with his own strain, "Undrafted," which he hopes to bring to L.A. (it's currently in Michigan).

"Not trying to replace anything," the NBA champ said about marijuana, adding, "It worked for me. I just encourage people, if you're doing something and it works for you, you should stick with it."

Shaq says he initially had interest in buying Robert Sarver's share of the org. after the disgraced owner announced last month he was putting it up for sale -- but when he found out Bezos potentially wanted in, he was all out.
Shaq explained even with his deep pockets -- he's reportedly got a net worth of around $400 MILLION -- he wanted no part in competing with Bezos' checkbook.
"Nobody on this planet can compete with Big Man JB," Shaq told us this week, before adding, "Because you know what? I just ordered 50 things off Amazon today. Big Man JB got that money coming in!"
But, if Bezos wanted Shaq's help -- and a little of his cash -- O'Neal says his ears are open.
"If he wants me on board, I would gladly like to talk to him," Shaq said.

"But," he continued, "as far as trying to own a whole team by myself, and go up against -- let me tell you something, I'm scared of Big Man JB. Shaq O'Neal is scared of Big Man JB!"
It's unclear if Bezos has real interest in the team -- and if he'd even consider being business partners with the NBA legend.
But, he's got a few months to figure it all out ... Sarver is still in the embryonic stages of selling off his shares of the team.

Could a Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson reunion be in the works?? Don't count it out just yet -- 'cause Kenya Barris tells TMZ Sports he'd love to include them in the reboot of the iconic 1992 film, "White Men Can't Jump."
We spoke with Barris -- who cowrote the highly anticipated remake -- out in NYC on Thursday ... and asked if fans should expect to see Snipes, Harrelson and the rest of the OG cast members in the flick.
"I hope so," Barris said ... adding he's "trying" to make it happen.
Worth noting -- the Jack Harlow-led project appears to have wrapped in July, so we're sure Barris knows the fine details on the cast already ... and is just toying with us at this point.
Speaking of OGs, TMZ also recently spoke with actor Kadeem Hardison -- who played Junior in the original -- and he's a bit concerned about how the reboot will play out without Ron Shelton writing.
Kadeem did, however, say he had reason to be optimistic -- he heard the "First Class" rapper's ball handling skills, coupled with his talent as an MC, will add flair to the movie.
Fans will have to wait until next year to get all their answers ... in the meantime, dust off the VHS player and give the original a watch.

Mark Cuban My Biggest Regret? Letting Steve Nash Leave Mavs!!
Years ago, Mark Cuban allowed Steve Nash to walk -- after six successful seasons in Dallas -- and the Mavs owner still hasn't forgiven himself, calling the blunder the billionaire's biggest basketball regret.
OSDB caught up with the 64-year-old owner in NYC this week ... and asked which move he kicks himself over in his almost 23 years of NBA ownership.
"Probably letting Steve Nash go. Yeah, I regret that. It's been almost 20 years now, and I still regret it," Cuban said.
Of course, Nash played six seasons in Dallas, and even made two All-Star teams. But, when his contract expired in 2--4, Steve left for the Phoenix Suns.
At the time, Nash said he was "sad to leave my teammates," but excited to be "going somewhere where they really wanted me."
He went on to win back-to-back NBA MVP awards.
It's not that things didn't work out for the Mavs, too. They made the Finals in 2006, losing to the Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal-led Miami Heat.
Then, in 2011, the Mavs once again made the Finals ... but this time, Dirk Nowitzki wouldn't be stopped. Dallas beat LeBron James' Miami squad in 6.
Nash -- the Brooklyn Nets head coach -- was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.

Ben Wallace NBA Should Wear Bill Russell's No. 6 ... To Start Season
-
Exclusive
The NBA is retiring Bill Russell's number, but Hall of Famer Ben Wallace wants to see the league do the opposite on opening night ... telling TMZ Sports it would be awesome to have every player wear #6 in honor of the late Celtics legend.
As we previously reported, the league decided to permanently make #6 off-limits throughout the league after Russell's passing in July ... with exception of those who are already donning the digit, like LeBron James and DeAndre Jordan.
Wallace -- who wore #6 at one point during his stellar career with the Pistons -- says he's cool with those who decided to keep their current number ... telling us, "I don't think it's a problem with them wearing number six. They couldn't foresee the passing of Mr. Russell."
The four-time Defensive Player of the Year goes on to make a suggestion of his own ... adding, "If it was up to me, I'd start the season where everybody would have to wear #6."
NBA Legend and Boston Celtics Great Bill Russell Dead at 88
Russell -- who won 13 titles (11 as a player, two as a player-coach) -- passed away at the age of 88 ... after contributing decades of his life to the Association.
Hall of Fame point guard Magic Johnson said in the aftermath of Russell's death that the NBA should retire #6 across the league in honor of his legacy -- and that's exactly what happened.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver explained the decision at the time ... saying, "Bill Russell's unparalleled success on the court and pioneering civil rights activism deserves to be honored in a unique and historic way."
"Permanently retiring his No. 6 across every NBA team ensures that Bill's transcendent career will always be recognized."
The NBA's opening night is October 18, so there's still time for the commish to make Wallace's idea happen ... although it would most certainly create headaches for the refs.
