Exclusive

Want to make a quick buck on Monday night's Home Run Derby? Bet on Pete Alonso ... 'cause Joe Musgrove -- one of the best pitchers in baseball -- tells TMZ Sports he thinks the Mets' star first baseman will win it easily!!
The San Diego Padres ace -- who's personally thrown against nearly every one of the participants in this year's derby -- said even though it's a stacked field, he believes the Polar Bear will come out on top for a third straight time.
"Dude," he said, "it's hard to pick anybody other than Polar Pete, man."
Musgrove told us he believes the 24-year-old's swing is just too good for the other seven participants -- Kyle Schwarber, Albert Pujols, Juan Soto, Jose Ramirez, Corey Seager, Julio Rodriguez and Ronald Acuna -- to beat out.
"His swing is so easy," Musgrove said. "Simple. Repeatable."
As for someone who he'd love to see compete with Alonso in the finals of Monday night's event -- Joe told us he's going to be pulling for Pujols there.
The 29-year-old, who's making his first All-Star appearance this week (and will no doubt be hopped up on his favorite Celsius drink at the events), added that he's hoping to meet Shohei Ohtani while out at the fun festivities.
The event kicks off at Dodger Stadium at 5 PM PT. Good luck!

Curt Schilling Brittney Griner Should 'Pay The Penalty' In Russia ... 'Obey The F***ing Law'
Curt Schilling clearly has no problem seeing Brittney Griner's detention in Russia drag on ... the ex-MLB star said Sunday night he believes the WNBA player should "pay the penalty for breaking another country's laws."
Schilling wrote the controversial statement on his Twitter page -- in a response to LeBron James' plea to bring Griner home.
"I know this may seem like a stretch," the 55-year-old said. "But something like 300 million people understand 'OBEY THE F***ING LAW', why is that such a challenge?"
I know this may seem like a stretch. But something like 300 million people understand "OBEY THE FUCKING LAW", why is that such a challenge? And why on earth should she NOT pay the penalty for breaking another country's laws? https://t.co/3SPJ5KJyA6
— Curt Schilling (@gehrig38) July 18, 2022 @gehrig38
"And why on earth should she NOT pay the penalty for breaking another country's laws?"
Griner has been locked in a cell in Russia since mid-February, after authorities said they found hashish oil in her luggage at an airport in Moscow. At a hearing in the case earlier this month, Griner pled guilty to the charges ... telling a judge at the time, "I didn't want to break the law."
Schilling obviously believes her plea and subsequent statements are justification for her to remain behind bars as long as Russia sees fit.
"She, as far as I know from every quote of hers," Schilling said, "has NEVER denied committing the crime, not once."
The United States government, meanwhile, has classified Griner as "wrongfully detained" and is in the process of negotiating with Russia to bring her home.
Griner is facing a punishment of up to 10 years behind bars following her guilty plea. Another hearing in her case has been scheduled for next week.

Marlins' Miguel Rojas Tooth Flies Out Of Mouth ... After Taking Helmet To Face
The Marlins' win on Thursday didn't come without a price for Miguel Rojas -- who had to sacrifice his tooth in order to make an out near the end of the game.
The wild scene all went down in the 9th inning of the Marlins' afternoon tilt with the Pirates ... when Pittsburgh star Oneil Cruz attempted to steal second base.

Broadcast replays showed Cruz's head hit Rojas' so hard -- it sent a tooth flying out of his mouth and onto the infield dirt.

Rojas was forced to leave the game following the collision.
Miami, though, did go on to win the game in the 11th inning ... which we're sure will make Rojas feel at least somewhat better as he lay in the dentist's chair later this week.

The NYPD tells TMZ Sports three of the men in the video were ultimately issued criminal court summonses for their roles in the fight.
As for the game, the guys ended up missing a good finish by their team -- as the Yankees went on to beat Cincinnati, 7-6, in 10 innings.

Alex Rodriguez 'No Regrets' Over J Lo Relationship ... 'Life Is Good'
Alex Rodriguez is clearly at peace more than a year after officially breaking things off with Jennifer Lopez ... he said this week he's now very happy and has "no regrets" over how anything went down with the entertainment icon.
The former MLB superstar explained it all to Martha Stewart on her "The Martha Stewart Podcast" Wednesday ... saying "life is good" post-J Lo.
"You know, Martha, thank goodness, no regrets," Rodriguez said. "Life is good. I'm very fortunate."
A-Rod and Lopez began dating back in 2017 -- and the couple became quite serious in the ensuing months.
The two intertwined their families and children -- and in 2019, the couple became engaged.
In 2021, however, they split ... but Rodriguez made it clear Wednesday there's no bad blood between the two whatsoever.
"Look, we had a great time," the 46-year-old said. "But, more importantly, we always put the kids front and center in everything we do."

Rodriguez went on to call Lopez "the most talented human being I've ever been around."
"Hardest worker," he said. "And I think she is the greatest performer, live performer in the world today that's alive."
Rodriguez has been linked to Kathryne Padgett since the Lopez breakup. The "On The Floor" singer, of course, has since found love again too, rekindling a former flame with Ben Affleck.

Pete Alonso I'm Dealing W/ 'Pretty Bad PTSD' ... Over March Car Crash

Pete Alonso still thinks about his horrific, rollover March car crash daily ... admitting Wednesday that he's suffering from "pretty bad PTSD" over the incident.
The New York Mets superstar made the revelation in a piece for The Players' Tribune, explaining he still hasn't quite shaken the impact the accident had on his mental health.
"The whole thing has been a lot for me to deal with," Alonso said.
"A big accident like that, when it happens to you, I don’t care who you are, it’s not easy. No matter how strong you might think you are, it can still be rough in a lot of different ways. I’m still dealing with some pretty bad PTSD from it, to be completely honest with you."
Alonso was T-boned while going through a green light in Tampa, Fla. -- and video that his wife posted shortly after the crash showed the accident left his F250 a completely mangled mess.
The 27-year-old said in his Players' Tribune article that he's leaned on people close to him to work through it all, "but it’s not something that quickly fades away -- at least not for me."
"It’s going to take some time, and that’s O.K.," Alonso added. "I’m just going to keep working to navigate everything and be the best husband, son, brother, friend and teammate I can be."

Video shows three gunshots -- appearing to be VERY close to the action on the field -- went off, forcing the 7 and 8-year-old players, along with coaches, umps, parents and spectators to hit the ground and sprint away in a panic.
Thankfully, cops say no one was hurt in the incident ... though, according to WITN, a minivan's window that was parked near the field was struck by the gunfire.
Despite everyone making it out physically unscathed, the two teams have since pulled out of the tournament -- with South Durham officials saying it was best for the kids.
"It was a terrifying situation for all involved," the team said in a statement. "Video shows coaches bravely covering players with their bodies and crawling off baseball fields."
"No child or parent should ever experience anything like this."
The Wilson Police Department, meanwhile, said in a statement that it is investigating the shooting ... but added there's currently "no evidence that this situation was an active shooter incident."
"The Wilson Police Department, at this time, has no evidence that anyone at the location was intentionally targeted by gunfire."

Derek Jeter My Beef With A-Rod Started In '01 ... 'Not A True Friend'
Derek Jeter can pinpoint the exact day that his relationship with Alex Rodriguez melted down ... saying it all happened in 2001, when he realized the MLB superstar was "not a true friend."
The New York Yankees legend opened up about it all in ESPN's new "The Captain" documentary -- which is set to run in its entirety in seven parts beginning later this month -- revealing he grew apart from Rodriguez after the former shortstop had made some remarks about him in an '01 interview with Esquire.
Rodriguez, who was very close with Jeter and had just signed a massive contract to play for the Texas Rangers, told a reporter for the outlet that Derek was "blessed" to play for an absolutely stacked NY team.
"He's never had to lead," Rodriguez said. "He doesn’t have to, he can just go and play and have fun, and hit second."
He continued, "I mean, you know, hitting second is totally different than hitting third or fourth in a lineup because you go into New York trying to stop Bernie [Williams] and [Paul] O’Neill and everybody. You never say, ‘Don’t let Derek beat you.’ That’s never your concern.”
Jeter, who at the time was considered the Yankees' best player, took offense to the comments -- saying in the documentary that they "bothered me."
"I’m very, very loyal," Jeter said. "As a friend, I’m loyal. I just looked at it as, ‘I wouldn’t have done it.'"
Rodriguez said in the documentary he apologized, and Jeter said he was down to accept it -- but #2 revealed A-Rod then went on to say "there’s not one thing he does better than me" in another interview, which Jeter made clear officially fractured their bond.
"He’s not a true friend, is how I felt," Jeter said. "Because I wouldn’t do it to a friend."
The two -- who were so close as youngsters in the MLB that they actually had sleepovers at each other's homes -- eventually became teammates with the Yankees in 2004, but famously had an up-and-down, icy time together.
For his part, A-Rod appeared to accept the blame for it all in the documentary, saying, "To allow that opening, that gap, that space to come between Derek and I, that's on me."

Awesome gesture from the Milwaukee Brewers ... the MLB team is honoring the 8-year-old boy who was paralyzed in the Highland Park shooting earlier this month at their game Friday night.
The Brewers have already hung a No. 22 "Roberts" jersey in their dugout ahead of their contest with the Pittsburgh Pirates ... an homage to Cooper Roberts, who was tragically shot and seriously injured while attending the Illinois 4th of July parade.
According to multiple reports, the Brewers will also give Cooper and his twin brother, Luke, jerseys signed by the entire team.
Milwaukee superstar and former MVP Christian Yelich also reportedly recorded a video message for Roberts and his family.
The awesome moves reportedly come just days after the team learned Roberts is a "huge" Brew Crew supporter -- the Brewers' Miller Park is, after all, roughly an hour drive from Highland Park, Ill.
According to a GoFundMe page set up for Roberts, the 8-year-old's spinal cord was severed by a bullet in the shooting. A statement from the family on Friday said Cooper is "conscious for the first time and [has] been removed from the ventilator but in a great deal of pain."
Here's to hoping the Brewers' nods to Cooper provide at least a few moments of relief for the little boy.

Somehow, both guys got up -- but, horrifyingly, Profar collapsed after walking just a few steps, and appeared to lose consciousness.

Known for his stylish sense of fashion and signature Panama hat, Brito helped the team land some of its most famous players.
In addition to Valenzuela and Puig, Brito was also given credit for discovering stars like Julio Urias.

Joe McDonald just reported the news ... and added Sale also spent $6,000 on lunch and dinner for WooSox players and staffers while the pitcher was on his rehab assignment.
Red Sox star Chris Sale lost his mind following a rocky rehab start Wednesday night ... destroying items and completely trashing a runway in his team's dugout.
The meltdown was all captured on video following the ace's short outing with Boston's Triple-A affiliate, the Worcester Red Sox.

In the short clip, you can see the 33-year-old pitcher -- who was throwing for the WooSox in another effort to make it back to the Big Leagues from a rib injury -- ripping items off the wall and kicking them violently.
Sale was clearly pissed about his 3.2 innings pitched, which featured five walks, five strikeouts and one earned run given up.
According to Worcester Telegram reporter Joe McDonald, one of the items Sale wrecked was a TV ... though the reporter added it had already "been broken for over a month."
No word yet if Sale -- who's in the middle of a five-year, $145 million contract with the Red Sox -- has been asked to pay for repairs.
Despite the blowup, Sale did say after the game he was ready to return to Boston's Big League roster.
"I know today was a little bit of a hiccup but it's nothing that can't be ironed out," he told the Boston Globe. "I just want to be a part of it. I want to get back to doing my job and pulling my weight."
Sale -- who missed the end of the 2019 season and the 2020 season due to Tommy John surgery -- was expected to be a key contributor to the Sox this season before suffering his rib injury in February.

Famous Dodgers Vendor Banned From Throwing Peanuts ... Over Safety Concerns
The days of Dodger fans getting nuts thrown in their faces are long gone -- famous vendor Roger Owens has been banned from his traditional peanut bag-tossing routine ... with officials deeming the practice too dangerous.
79-year-old Owens -- who's famous for his theatrics when delivering a bag of nuts to fans at Dodger Stadium for decades -- claims he's been told by his bosses to refrain from his signature delivery while walking the aisles of the park.
The reason?? Levy Restaurants -- which is in charge of concessions at the stadium -- believes Owens' peanut pitching is a safety concern for spectators.

"I'm so heartbroken about this," Owens told the Los Angeles Times.
The vendor -- who was featured on the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson, as well as several movies and TV shows -- isn't going to fight the decision ... but says he's always been responsible with his craft ... and his goal has always been for the fans to be able to catch their purchases.
"They have time to see it coming," Owens told the outlet. "It’s not some bullet that goes straight through. I’m always wanting to make sure that whoever I am throwing to will catch the bag of peanuts."
The decision is most likely to prevent a lawsuit in case an unsuspecting fan gets hit with an errant toss ... but the Dodgers' 2022 ticket agreement seems to cover the team's ass in that event.
There's still hope for Roger -- there were similar peanut-throwing bans in 1976 and 1985 ... but they were later rescinded after fans got pissed.
