Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is refusing to support the narrative painting Brian Thompson's suspected killer as a modern-day vigilante ... slamming the notion as the murder case continues.

The politician spoke out in a press conference Monday after Luigi Mangione, the top person of interest in the fatal shooting of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, was arrested in Pennsylvania that same day.

While addressing reporters, Shapiro made it clear Mangione was "no hero," adding ... "In America, we do not kill people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint."

4:47 PM PT -- Luigi Mangione, who is a top person of interest in the death of UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson, has been ordered to be held without bail after appearing in court for the first time Monday.

He was charged with forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records or identification, and providing false identification to law enforcement.

While he did not enter a plea, Mangione reportedly spoke against 2 claims made against him ... including the suggestion he was criminally sophisticated.

Mangione's next hearing is set for Dec. 23 in Pennsylvania ... though, New York state is expected to issue a warrant.

Luigi Mangione, the person of interest in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, received a police escort into court in a perp walk Monday.

The 26-year-old Maryland native, who was picked up in Altoona, Pennsylvania earlier Monday in connection with the NYC murder, arrived at the Blair County Court House in PA ... where he was set to appear for a preliminary arraignment.

We caught up with Tony, who is also a stand-up comedian in his own right, at LAX amid the controversy ... where he gave an expletive-filled explanation as to why his brother was in the right for his heated response.

As Tony put it ... people shouldn't be filming comedians' sets -- even at private functions -- as they're constantly working through their material. According to Tony, fans who try and put out incomplete work are "f***ing a**holes," which is why he can understand Chris' frustration.

Check it out ... earlier this morning, Mangione -- who is currently being questioned by authorities after being picked up in Altoona, Pennsylvania -- had a mere 975 followers on Instagram. His follower count skyrocketed by tens of thousands after his identity was revealed to the public.

At the time of writing, Mangione's IG account -- which has been inactive since 2021 -- had just over 27,000 followers ... many of whom have declared their attraction to the person of interest.

Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, earlier today after a McDonald's employee recognized him from widely distributed suspect photos while he was enjoying a meal inside the fast food restaurant.

Altoona Police have now released an image of Luigi Mangione's fake identification card -- a New Jersey driver's license -- and police say it's the same ID used by Mangione during his stay at a hostel in New York City prior to Thompson's shooting death. Police raided that hostel last week after learning Mangione was renting a room.

The Ohio State athletic department just announced a member of its men's soccer team was a victim in an off-campus shooting on Saturday ... revealing the student-athlete is currently surrounded by family members after receiving medical treatment.

The school said redshirt junior Nathan Demian was shot following the team's match against Wake Forest ... but made it clear he is not a suspect in the criminal investigation, nor was he involved in any sort of altercation prior to the incident.

"The soccer program is thankful for the incredible university support and medical care available to Nathan and his family during this difficult time," the athletic department said in a statement.
