W. Kamau Bell is applauding the filmmakers who participated in the first major film festival held at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center ... revealing there's some budding talent within the institution's walls.

We caught up with the comedian and TV host on "TMZ Live" Wednesday, where he shared insight into how the star-studded festival came to be ... and teased what could be in store for the participating prisoners.

As Bell put it ... the festival came about after WKB visited California's oldest prison -- formerly known as San Quentin State Prison -- for an episode of "United Shades of America," where he met writer and former inmate Rahsaan Thomas ... who went on to co-found the festival after staying in touch.

Artem Chigvintsev has walked away with his best-case scenario following a 2-hour hearing in his Nikki Garcia (AKA Bella) divorce case ... TMZ has learned.

According to docs obtained by TMZ ... the professional dancer and the retired WWE star had a hearing in the Napa County, California court Tuesday, where a judge ordered the exes to share custody of their son, 4-year-old Matteo.

This was certainly the outcome the "Dancing with the Stars" alum was hoping for ... as he previously requested joint custody when he filed his divorce response in September.

1:52 PM PT -- While the Menendez family stood behind Erik and Lyle today, people in the crowd were split ... some holding signs advocating for release, others wanting them to remain behind bars.

1:30 PM PT -- Bryan Freedman, the lawyer representing the extended Menendez fam, says the family is heading to the Hall of Justice in L.A.. As victims of the murders under Marsy's Law, the family members can go to court to be heard ... and, they will all reiterate their belief that Erik and Lyle should be released from prison.

1:25 PM PT -- Kitty's niece -- Karen VanderMolen -- says she's always believed Erik and Lyle's story ... feeling something was wrong in their household growing up. She adds that if Erik and Lyle were women, they would've received a much shorter sentence.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons tells TMZ ... Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory was transferred Tuesday from FCI Coleman Low in Wildwood to community confinement overseen by the BOP's Miami Residential Reentry Management Office.

Our sources say Big Meech is now serving his sentence in a halfway house.
