Missy Elliott put on a showstopping set at the opening night of Coachella ... which included coming out as a freaking Transformer!

The crowd went nuts when ME went from robot to superstar right before their eyes as she performed her 2019 track "Throw it Back."

And in pure Missy Elliott fashion ... her set was filled with pyrotechnics and eye-popping visuals as she commanded the stage on night one.

Lady Gaga was the headliner for a jam-packed opening night of Coachella ... and the superstar didn't disappoint the crowd of thousands!

Gaga did several costume changes in a flash -- from her in the dirt with skeletons, to being lifted by her dancers while being dressed in white feathers -- while rocking on a stage that kept changing as she belted her hits.

Gaga rocked the fest through a storyline with numbers that included "Bloody Mary," "Judas," "Abracadabra," "Poker Face," "Disease," "Papparazi," "Killah," "Born This Way," "Shallow," and "Bad Romance."

11:20 AM PT -- Patrick Schwarzenegger shared his view from Lisa's killer set last night ... posting on his Instagram that his wild moved in the pit had a lot to do with the cocktail he drank.

BTW, we're gonna assume the cocktail didn't have any poisonous fruit in it. 👀

It's highly unlikely the next season of "The White Lotus" will take place at Coachella ... but we kinda got a glimpse of what they could look like Friday night at the music fest!

The Menendez brothers appeared remotely in the L.A. County courtroom Friday where D.A. Nathan Hochman and his team of prosecutors presented their case to the judge for withdrawing the petition to resentence Erik and Lyle -- a petition that was filed by the previous D.A. George Gascon, and which the newly elected Hochman vehemently opposes.

The brothers -- wearing prison blues -- were seen on a video screen in court, and visibly reacted as prosecutors repeatedly stated that they had not changed since their conviction ... because they never admitted their claim they purchased guns in fear for their lives was a lie.
