Heisman Winner Troy Smith Sentenced in Drunk Driving Case ... Avoids Jail
Ex-NFL QB Troy Smith has struck a plea deal in his drunk driving case, but won't serve any time behind bars ... TMZ Sports has learned.
The former Ohio State star was busted for OVI (operating vehicle while impaired) and weed possession on April 3rd after cops pulled him over and realized he was hammered.
According to court records, Smith pled guilty to willful or wanton disregard and, in exchange, the other charges were dismissed.
He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 177 days suspended. We spoke to Smith's lawyer, who said he is going to complete a 3 day driver intervention program instead of going to jail.
The judge also sentenced him to a year of probation and suspended his license for 6 months. He's not allowed to drink any alcohol while on probation.
