Kate Hudson slayed Friday night when she got on stage and belted out Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U."

Kate jumped onstage at an event her mom, Goldie Hawn, threw for Love In For Kids.

It was a good choice ... after Sinead O'Connor's bizarre accusations this week, someone needs to be the face of that song, and Kate fit the bill.

BTW ... Kate's sung before in the movie, "NINE."
