Questlove lived the first 43 years of his life without getting drunk once ... a streak he broke by getting wasted for the FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE on his 44th birthday.
Quest explained to our photog ... he's a bit of a lightweight when it comes to drinking, but he did one too many shots of rum while celebrating his big day on Tuesday.
He also talked about another first -- something experienced drinkers have known about since turning 21 ... and most likely before that too.
