Ed Sheeran got sweet revenge when he ran into his ex-GF Ellie Goulding in London -- giving her an icy cold brush-off ... in case she didn't know how he felt after his hit song about her cheating on him.

The singers came face-to-face at the Victoria's Secret fashion show in London -- and while she went in for a two-handed hug ... Ed opted for the one-handed back tap. The big chill was the perfect follow-up to his song, "Don't" ... which Ed says is all about her cheating with Niall Horan from 1D.

And just to drive home the point with Ellie ... Ed brought his new chick, Athina Andrelos to the event. One word -- upgrade.
