If you try jumping on stage to play with the house band, you'd probably get booted off stage ... but when you're Prince ... you get a pass.
Here's what went down -- Prince was in the crowd Sunday for jazz night at the W Hotel in LA. Our spies say Prince was watching from the balcony when he decided ... hey, why not join in?
Of course the band obliged. Our spies say it seemed like P was annoyed that the band couldn't keep up.
In the end, Prince handed the band back their guitar, hopped off stage, shook his head and waved to the crowd as if he hadn't just done the coolest thing ever.
