Joey Chestnut just got a permanent set of buns to call his own ... by proposing to his girlfriend on Coney Island before Nathan's annual 4th of July Hot Dog Eating contest.
A nervous Joey took to the stage before participating in the event ... and once he asked, his girlfriend couldn't wait to happily say "Yes."
Chestnut took home first prize a short time later ... he downed 61 dogs in 10 minutes ... just 8 shy of his world record.
