Richie Incognito -- Involuntary Psychiatric Hold
Richie Incognito Involuntary Psychiatric Hold
Richie Incognito is being held on an involuntary psychiatric hold ... but HE was the one who initially wanted to get help ... TMZ Sports has learned.
Sources tell us ... Richie was hanging out with a friend last night -- when they started drinking and talking about all of the drama in Richie's life ... including why he smashed up his Ferrari with a baseball bat.
Sources tell us ... Richie has been on the verge of a breakdown from all of the stress connected to the Jonathan Martin bullying scandal AND his parents' divorce.
We're told Richie was aware of his situation -- and was wrestling with the idea of seeking psychiatric help for a while ... but was scared because of the frightening "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" imagery connected to a psych ward.
We're told Richie got very emotional during the conversation with his friend Thursday night ... and eventually both men decided Incognito should seek immediate psychological help.
Problem was ... our sources tell us they realized they were too drunk to drive -- so they called police to ask for a ride to the psychiatric facility.
Our sources tell us Richie initially checked himself in to the facility ... but shortly after he arrived, he freaked out and wanted to leave.
That's when multiple people sprang into action and secured an involuntary commitment order.
The involuntary commitment is on a ticking clock ... and it's unclear if his family will move to get a conservatorship after the involuntary commitment runs its course.
