Dwyane Wade will NOT take a starring role on the new TV sitcom based on his life -- but there's a damn good chance he'll make a cameo ... along with his pal LeBron James.

TMZ Sports spoke with Mike Tollin -- who's producing Wade's sitcom, "Three the Hard Way" -- and MT tells us ... Wade is focusing on producing and has no real desire to be an actor.

And Wade isn't just lending his name to the production for star power -- Tollin tells us he's a legitimate producer who's been involved in every major step along the way ... from pitch meetings to story development and even casting.
