Screw Nirvana and Kiss ... Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis says it's finally time to induct Cat Stevens into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after years of being snubbed.

Kiedis was dipping out of BOA in Hollywood Monday night when we asked him about the 2013 HOF nominees -- which includes Nirvana, Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Deep Purple, Cat Stevens ... and a slew of other big names.

The RHCP didn't say much, but he made it clear he's throwing his support behind the "Wild World" singer ... who now goes by the name Yusuf Islam.

The competition is stiff, so we gotta ask ...
