The New Orleans District Attorney's Office tells us ... investigators did not have enough evidence to move forward with the case.
TMZ broke the story -- Cage was arrested after allegedly grabbing his wife and disturbing the peace during a booze-fueled bender ... triggered by the fact Nic couldn't remember where he lived.
The D.A. tells TMZ ... after reviewing the police report and checking out the witnesses, "The evidence did not support charging Cage with a crime."
