Kimberly Crosses the Pond
Hello from London!
I'm finally here!!! And to think I almost wasn't going to be able to fly!
I had a brutal ear infection and my doctor said that if I flew, I could do permanent damage to my hearing (I mean, and not be able to rock out to good music ... NO way!). Or I could have needed a hole drilled into my ear so that they could drain the fluids. Gross, I know. Alas, no drilling and no damaged eardrums! The ear infection cleared up on its own, and I was given the OK to make the trip. After a teary goodbye to friends and family, I boarded the plane and headed to the U.K.
I arrived in London and had an entire day off. This hasn't happened in months! So, my friend Calum, my sister Ruby and I decided to spend the day in Notting Hill. I love it over there -- it's just like the movie -- OK, Hugh Grant doesn't own the corner bookstore, but the people are so amiable and the shops are so quaint. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I have a slight addiction to shoes. And London has great shoes! So after picking up a couple of new stilettos, Calum, Ruby and I headed back to the Dorchester (my absolute favorite hotel in all of London) and had a very "civilized" mid-afternoon tea.
Monday was all about finding the perfect flat. The camera crews followed Calum and me around London as we went apartment hunting. And we think rent in the States is outrageous! The apartments in London are tiny and ridiculously expensive. Granted, the pound is like double the dollar, but I still can't help but wonder how the hell people afford to live over here! A Starbucks Chai Latte (my current drink of choice) is like 7 dollars! Thankfully, I'm getting paid for my show in pounds! :)
Well, that's all for now. I'm exhausted, a bit jet-lagged, and the deliciously comfortable bed at the Dorchester is screaming my name.
Sweet Dreams!
