Which Bling Will Ring at Globes?
It's not easy to bling brightly on the red carpet these days. When your name is Charlize, Eva or Nicolette, you don't just roll out of bed and decide what you're going to wear that night. It often takes months of planning -- and usually by well-trained stylists (you hope) -- to construct the perfect awards-night look.
So what's going to be the hot look this season?
Old Hollywood glamour, says jewelry and style expert Michael O'Connor. "It's going to be about sleek dresses and elegance," he told TMZ at the Platinum Guild International suite at the Luxe Hotel in Beverly Hills. "For women, rich colors are back. And when it comes to jewelry for both men and women, it's not blingy for the sake of bling, but rather classic looks."

That's why one-of-a-kind, unique pieces from Erica Courtney, Sol Rafael, Neil Lane, Jacob & Co. and Scott Kay will be in high demand, whether it's a simple 24.26 carat diamond and platinum bracelet for men -- which costs a simple $206,000 -- or a stunning 43 carat rose-cut diamond necklace.
Style suites are just one tool stylists to the stars use during the crazy, hectic award season. They can walk into a room filled with jewels -- in this case, $8 million worth of platinum, diamond, rubies and sapphire platinum beauties -- to find just the right item to go with just the right dress or tux.
O'Connor told us that Geena Davis' stylist was in to find something appropriately glam for the 'Commander in Chief' star. "Diamond and ruby drop earrings would be stunning on her," he said. For the men, diamond and platinum cuff links are big, like the ones which a style-maven such as Ryan Seacrest might wear.
Stars who haven't quite arrived yet often check out the goods on their own. At the Luxe Penthouse, we spied up-and-comer Brandon Routh, the new Man of Steel in 'Superman Returns,' there with his girlfriend eyeing platinum rings and necklaces. Indie-darling Amy Adams, who got a SAG nod for Best Supporting Actress in 'Junebug,' was also checking out the jewels for her big night.
